Need some advice on Home Theatre Projectors

My friend is finishing off his basement and wants a big screen of some kind for the TV room. He's been looking into projectors and big screens but can't decide.

Basically just want to know if one has better resolution and flexability than the other. The projection distance is about 13 feet. The budget is about $3000.

Digital projection is supposed to be the shit. Bar none. You should be able to get a nice projector for 3G's, and it'd probably be a hell of a lot better than the typical big screen. My bro has one of the lastest big screens, and I don't think it holds shit to my Samsung DLP.

CRT and DLP technology is still the leaders in picture quality at this time. Though there may be some close seconds a rear projection CRT has the best picture as far as big screens go for the money. Don't compare bottom of the line CRT's to top of the line projectors, dlp's, lcd's and plasma's though, they won't cut it. Pioneer elite and Mitsu diamonds offer the best picture IMO especially for the money. Your top of the line projections run up around 10 grand and more.

I have two different friends that both have Dell projectors, and they have a great picture. I think they have 8 or 10 ft. wide screens! The model they bought is just around $1200. I have given it some serious thought and if I had to replace my TV I would probably go for it.

My dad-who is a master at anything home theater, he made 1 in our basement-says that BenQ projectors are pretty sick. If he wants to spend a little more $$$, he can look into Optoma projectors. The BenQ lists for about $4000, but you can get it cheaper. Hope this helps.
