bansheetimes2
Was ripping around my 96 shee this past weekend and all of the sudden, it was like the throttle stuck wide open. Except the throttle still feels perfect. So I quick shut it off and thought maybe one of the slides stuck open, so I pulled the rubber boots off of the carbs that attach it to the air box so that I cold make sure the slides still were working properly and everything seems right. So before I start tearing it apart i'd like to know if anyone has had this happen or if there is anything that you can think of that would cause this. Thanks to all that reply.... neilgf
Sounds like an air leak.
bigboybanshee
Air leak is a definite possibility....maybe your choke tube fell off. Spray some carb cleaner around your intake/carb boots and reed cages, see if it starts revving even higher. That will tell you for sure if it's an air leak. mat
It is possible that one slide stuck open and freed itself by the time you took it apart to check it. The stock carbs are notorious for sticking. They seem to stick worse when they get wet. Did you just ride through a puddle? Was the humidity really high? svtkid78
Did the cable to adjust throttle free-play come loose and take out the slack. Check the free-play of your throttle.
fixitrod
Are you about out of gas.. lol. I had that happen once and it revved way out at idle.
FIRST BANSHEE
I had the cable stick on mine before and the thumb part still feels like it is working. lubed the cable and the problem was gone. mine got sand in through the throttle switch hole, I have since siliconed the hole closed. I originally thought the choke was stuck or I just need to adjust my idle. As I started playing with the idle and making sure everything was tight I noticed that the TORS unit was loose, the connection felt tight but after disconnecting it I realized that it was cross threaded. After reconnecting properly the idle went back to normal.
