Need For Speed
I have a question about two strokes. It is not about my banshee. I just restored a 1976 Arctic Cat Cheetah 5000 snowmobile. The shop manual says AC oil @50:1 but other brands of 2stroke oil @ 20:1. This seems really rich to me. Maybe in 1976 you would need 20:1 but todays oils should have better lubrication and I think I can mix it leaner. What do you guys think. I put some of my banshee mix in just to start her up after the rebuild and that is yamalude @32:1 and the sled smoked like a bitch. Now I don't mind a little extra oil for the break in but when the snow comes I want to lean that mix out a bit. It is a 500 cc air cooled engine. Just looking for some advice on how to figure out a safe ratio for such an old machine. any help would be great.
PUSH THE THROTTLE
Need For Speed I couldn't figure out your avatar for the longest time. Now that I realize that blue thing is Marge's hair that's hilarious. Don't know anything about the snowmobile but I run Amsoil 100:1 mixed at 80:1 and I'll never switch to anything else. Almost no smoke. It's so nice taking a bottle and dumping it in a 5 gallon can with no measuring plus it's cheap.
