Stock airbox lid mod

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have an 03 banshee with FMF fatty's, pc2 silencers, boyesene power reeds, a uni airfliter and its jetted for sealevel. I recently bought a used stock airbox lid so I could drill some holes in it and get a little more air in there. My question is how many holes should I drill, how big should I drill them and I would prefer not have to re-jet after. If I have to re-jet that ok but i would rather not.

Any ideas or has anyone else done this mod before? BTW the snorkel is removed as well.

If you are trying to get more air in you will definately have to rejet unless you're running really rich already.

Go to the Toomey Website. http://www.toomey.com/

Toomey recomends 10 1" Diameter holes.

6 on the back of the air box, two on the left and right sides of the air box near the back.

I attached there install pdf instructions. That should give you a real good idea on how to vent your air box

peace

Then don't do it. The purpose of the mod is to increase airflow, and with the increase in airflow, you can add more fuel, which will add power. ;)

Werd... When I used to run an air box and a lid, I drilled twelve 1/2" holes in it. I think it was 1/2" anyway. :shrugani:

Hey guys thanks for the replys..They (toomey) say 12 holes..but I could not find the pictures and BrianEB's pdf instructions didn't attach. I am assuming they are 1 inch...If I did this, I know it is going to lean the bike out too much...I currently run stock pilots(25's) and 270 mains. What should I change them too?

Thanks again

I would go up two sizes.with it getting cold out and your airbox mod, thats where i would start.

Just cut the back of the lid off up to the clips that hold it on.

Exactly what I would do...At most with this mod you would go up one size on the main jet; probably don't need to change anything though. Leave the pilot where it's at now. This mod ads a nice little improvement over stock

Go to the Toomey website again, go to the T-6 installation instruction,

download the pdf file and in there they describe how to properly vent your airbox.

Toomey has been at it a long time, so read there instructions and do as they say.

But yes you will have to rejet. I would start with a 280 main as they suggest.

And you will have to move the clip down on the needle one.

Take your time and do one carb at a time

I cut the back of my lid off and put holes on the underside snorkel area, but not on the top of the lid. The filter gets dirty there so I know it's suckin more air. The more the merrier I say.

Thanks guys for the replys!!! Which mod do you think is better? The 1 inch holes or cut the back off the lid?

Are you just keeping the lid on to hold the stock filter in? If so I'd do both, make that lid look like swiss cheese. Like sredish said the more the merrier. If you want more flow but want to keep the filter clean so there is less maintenance then drill the holes and use the plugs with the little filters. Put as many as you can fit in the damb lid. Cutting the back part of the lid off is the simplest way to go, works good and is free. Definitly rejet. If you make the lid flow good I would go to a 290 main in the cold weather 280 when it is above 80 degrees.
