on a 4 stroke they are easy because you just pop them up while going slow and feather the gas

but on a 2 stroke you just hit the band and pull back and don't freak out

Just nail on the gas and shift while having your weight back a little. THis works well when you have traction :) or start out in first and hit it and just try keeping it balanced i found in 3rd its easy to stay in the power and keep it up for a while. Just dont hit it too hard though because you fill flip back hard and it will twist and roll and probably land on you.

Finding the balance point is key. I've been working on my wheelies lately and can balance and ride them so slow it will want to stall. It's all about poping it up high enough and using the rear brake and gas for control. My goal has always been to cat walk a wheelie. Now I can finally do it. Shorteneing my swingarm helped to I think.

Some more tips...... I don't lean back because you have more of a chance of going over backwards. I just slide back a couple inches on my seat, start in 1st gear, get it going fast enough so that you are in the power band, then let completely off the gas and then punch it to get the front up then gradually feather it. Make sure you have your right foot resting on the rear brake because you'll want to become real familiar with it. Another tip, practice on grass so that way if(and I haven't yet) you go on over you'll just get some grass stain. As for shifting while doing a wheelie, you have to get used to pulling a wheelie in 1st while increasing speed because when you hit 2nd you want to be able to be in the power band in second as well. Another tip, don't use the clutch while shifting doing a wheelie. I for the longest time couldn't shift into 2nd, my clutch lever is very heavy and I just couldn't shift fast enough, so I talked to a cousin that used to race MX and he said don't use the clutch. That is definitely the key. Once you get so you can keep it up while shifting to 2nd you are ready for the road. Get on a nice straight black top road and you can go right up through the gears holding the front up. Just make sure the tire pressure in your rear tires are the same or else you will pull big time either to the left or right. My 98 pulls big time because I haven't got a chance to adjust tire pressure.

Last bit of advice, do it over and over and over and over. You'll get it in no time.

And one last thing I forgot, if your goal is to be able to do slow wheelies my method won't work. The only way to do slow wheelies is to determine your quads balancing point like mentioned above. I just hate the fact that the only way to find your quads balancing point is to tip backwards while throwing yourself off a few times.

As long as i'm accelerating on my quads I can pull a wheelie. When I can't accelerate anymore, that's when the front comes down. And since i'm ok with not doing wheelies at 85, there isn't a time when I stop accelerating.
