I got plenty of low end since ive done all my engine mods (check sig)

I want some of my top end back. Thinking of a 15t front do they make

a 16t front.  I want some speed

Yea, they make a 16. If you run a case saver, you might have to trim it. I run a 15 and love it. I'll "fine tune" the rear for where I'm at.

Humble texas ehh? do you do any racing at hmp?

back to the main topic. Go with the 15 tooth unless you don't like seeing 6th gear. It isn't going to pull the 16 tooth up front.

I run a 16 front on my banshee. Ive got ALOT of low end. Got a woods port by Eric Gorr. I tried all kinds of gearing. 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. It seemed like the 16 tooth was the key. Ive got alot of top end, but my bottom end is still all there.

I just installed a 15t and it is one of the best mods I have put on my bike so far. The bigger gearing coupled with my sst's and k&n has proven to be a great combo. I have only had it installed about 2 weeks so I have only ridden it about 3 times but man it is like night and day. I can take off in 2nd gear still without stalling and when I put it in 3rd it is like I'm already in 4th because of the different gearing. Nothing but positive things can come from 15 tooth. Less shifting, It pulls better and longer, Super fast top end. I cant imagine running a 16 tooth. I would get the 15 and I promise you will have no regrets.

Im bouncing the idea of the 15 tooth up front too. Whats the deal with taking the chain off and putting it back on though. If im careful, can i pop the master link with a pair of pliers and a philips? or do i need that special tool? what about putting it back on?

Somebody that has done this, help a brother out and give me a quick run down of the easiest way to do this.

Its easy as snot. Just lossen your chain as much as possible with the chain adjusters on the back of your axle. Take a flat screwdriver and pop off the clip on the master link, pop off the side cover in front of your sprocket, bend the soft metal washer away from your sprocket, remove that sprocket, throw the new one on and button it back up. Should take you no more than a half hour.

I have always been a guy to gear my machines way down. I just bought 12/40 gearing. My thought is I never have long enough staights to get it up to 6th.

I prefer riding trails and like the lower gearing.

Seems to me with 15/41 or higher you would be slipping the clutch all the time in trails.

If your saying that, you haven't tried it. I'm geared to 15/41 and I race woods, ride tight trails, and rarely ever get her into 6th, probably just on plug runs. My gears are longer therefore not shifting constantly. If I ran a 12/40 in the woods, I'd be shifting pretty much constantly. With my gearing, I can hold 3rd gear in the woods from a lug to a revved out

12/40:

2nd Gear

3,000 rpm = 10.3 mph

9,000 rpm = 30.9 mph

3rd Gear

3,000 rpm = 12.4 mph

9,000 rpm = 37.3 mph

15/41 in 3rd Gear:

2nd Gear

3,000 rpm = 12.5 mph

9,000 rpm = 37.6 mph

3rd Gear

3,000 rpm = 15.1 mph

9,000 rpm = 45.5 mph

So, that's about 8 mph I gain in the 3rd gear through the woods with my gearing. In fact, my 3rd gear pretty much takes over your 3rd AND 4th. If I was running your gearing, I'd have to shift again to get more speed than 37 mph, then shift back down in the next corner. I can easily lug 3rd and hold the slower speed and blip the clutch and be out of there, and if I DO shit into 4th, I'm gone. It'd take you two gears to keep up with my one.

It's all preferences, but I guarantee you don't ride any tighter than I do, I can barely fit my machine through the shit I go through, but I will open her up into 4th and 5th, where with a lower gearing, I'd be out of revs. We all need to do what we like best, that's what's fun about this.

I agree with sredish 110%. In stock trim the gearing on a banshee is even a little low feeling to me. With any kind of performance pipes and jetting then it will deffinetly be to small of a gearing. If I was rich I would buy a 15 tooth up front for you because I believe in this mod that much. When I installed I was having to shift less, the pull from the pipes along with the gearing was increadible and it didn't wind out as fast although I have yet to bog down either. I feel that it is a perfect mod for trail riding because thats all I do. :bolt:;)
