Long range tank

I run an IMS 5 something gallon tank. I boiled some hot water, and dumped it into the tank to expand it with some compressed air, and let it cool. I get a touch over 6 gallons in it. I LOVE it, and would not switch back anytime soon. I can ride forever on a tank full. And when racing, just don't put as much in. Or, unless your XC racing...... B)

Glad to hear somebody likes it... got one and its fugly so i'm using the "no handlebar risers yet" excuse to keep from putting it on for the moment.. :D

I bought the 22L (5.5Gallon) clear tank, so I can see the gas in it.

I am fitting it this weekend. What are handlebar risers?

JJ - The tank cost me R1500 here (US$230) It was on special, normally around R2500 ($380)

Looking forward to being able to ride forever with it.

If anyone has a good pic of exactly where the plastics are cut to fit this tank, pls email to me (not too high res) bruce@tekwani.co.za

Shot,

I'm still leaning towards the Clarke ridingorhiding, that reminds me I need to send 'em a letter and see what they say. Actually I'd rather just have a nice pit bunny waitin' at the pits to refuel my stock tank, heh, but I doubt I could afford either one right now LOL!!

Yup, a longer stem, or some spacers. I made a custom stem for my bike, and I also heated the tank with a heat gun, (after the boiling water trick) and "relieved" the areas where the tank was close to hitting. If I had to do it again, I would go with the Clarke, to be perfectly, blatantly honest. I like the looks of it better......

I've got the IMS 5.6 and like it for everything but looks, it's ugly. Gotta get some stickers to pretty it up. I have no trouble with hitting the bars lock to lock and I have stock. Don't know if Yamaha used different bars for '03, that's what I have. I just bought a race cut front plastic so I could always go back to original. On the IMS, what you need to cut off will be a problem if you want to go back to original. You actually cut the flap part that wraps around the back of the tank (where the seat covers it). Since putting it on, I can go farther then 4strokes I ride with.
