y2kbanshee9187
ok I bought a banshee last saturday and I love it by the way, but I was wondering if I could go get a title made for it. It is a 2000 and already has a title but the guy i bought it from had to transfer something over from the guy he bought it from, (not sure exactly) and he should send it to me in the mail. I wanted to ride somewhere this weekend and if its not here i need to have a title to get a sticker to ride and if there is already a title can they make another one for me? does anyone know this? thanks
Banshee~
I think you need a bill of sale and then you pay about $100 or so to have the title made

Nightrider
That guy has to provide you with a title or manufactureres certificate of origin.Bill of sales are NO GOOD in Ohio any more. They changed that law a few years ago.No longer can you show a bill of sale to exchange for a title,UNLESS you have the "original" bill of sale and YOUR name is on it. If you can't get a title for it...my advice is don't buy it,unless you never plan on registering it to be used on public trail systems. A few years ago the BMV encouraged anyone who still had an original bill of sale to come in and have a title issued.I don't know what caused them to abandon this type of transfer, but is no longer valid in the state of Ohio. Even if you have the original bill of sale and your name is on it,you must have it convered to a certificate of title if you plan on transferring ownership. I know some bikes and quads built before the 90's only had a bill of sale, but they still came with something,You might have to go through hell traking down previous owners, but if you want it,thats the price you have to pay. If it doesn't have a title and you do decide to buy it..you better hope it never gets impounded for any reason. You will never see it again. fixitrod
In Indiana you need to have a vin inspection by a police officer or at the bmv. This is if you lost a title or you buy it from another state. They make sure it's not stolen. That's $5. Then you need to have a receipt. The you will pay sales tax and $15 for the title fee. That's it. A title is not required in Indiana though.
Nightrider
It used to be that wayy too in Ohio up until about 1999.. You can find more info here, but remember any transfer of ownership after 1999 must be done with a title. http://www.bmv.ohio.gov/APV.html Edited October 27, 2004 by Nightrider
