Any bowhunters here ?

bow season started october 2nd in Pa. This is my 14th season and Im not having much luck so far. My buddy shot an 8 point buck on the first day of the season and I video taped it. I had 5 does 8 yards from my stand on Monday afternoon. I don't have a doe tag, I can't shoot em. bucks only.

I wanna hear some bowhunting stories.

I've been hunting for about 6 years. Never shot anything my first 4 years, then finally got a doe with a muzzleloader. Last year, went out for one last night before my christmas break was over, and ended up forgeting my safetly belt. My stand was in a pine tree and there were about 20 mph winds that day, so I just didnt feel safe. I decided to get down and go stand against a tree at the edge of the field about 30 yards from my stand, just hoping to see something. Lucky for me the stupidest deer that USED to be in that whole timber walked out, walked straight at me until 20 yards and turned broadside. Perfect shot and she was down 100 yds away. That was my first bow kill.

last year in GA was my first season ever bowhunting. now ive shot deer before with rifles and ive become a damn good shot with a rifle. then i got into bowhunting and i started shooting almost every day in my yard, from up close to in a treestand and every angle i could. i got pretty damn good. i was ready to hunt. we went to GA for a week at the open of bow season, and set out. for 4 days i sat and saw nothing. then late the 4th night i saw a buck that made my jaw drop. perfect symmetrical 8 point at least 220lbs, im talking like 8inch G2s. he kept getting closer and closer until he was no more than 35 yds from my stand. i drew the bow and waited... and waited... and waited... then he turned broadside and i was so anxious and my arm was about to fall the hell off so i shot, he jumped. and he hauled ass. arrow went right under him.

but on the 6th day of the trip i sat in my stand all day watchin a few doe about 50 yds from me. the sun was about to set and i was getting pissed at the does for not at least getting a small buck to come out of the woods. so i figured, man its all over, im gonna at least bring something home... i drew up and let one go at the bigger of the does, i barely aimed... and missed her by about a foot over her back, and ill be damned if i didnt hit a 9 point, 205 pound buck right in the fucking chest. he was standing right behind her, i NEVER saw him not once. layed his ass right there. of course the story my friends heard was that i just waited for him and he was the one i aimed at.

Rookie mistake, even with the new 80% letoff bows. You should practice taking quick shots. Pull up and draw back, place the pin on the shoulder and fire all in one smooth motion. wait for the shot, wait for him to move into perfect positon for a perfect shot, then do the quick shot. The longer you hold, the more your going to shake. Pull up, aim and shoot. 2 or 3 seconds. If you let down on your pull, be carefull you arrow doesnt fall off the bow cause they ususally un-nock themselves when you let a fully drawn bow down without shooting it. Grab that arrow before it falls and re nock it on the string.

yea, that was my first time bowhunting and im really getting into it. i love shooting just for the fun of it anymore. i shoot about every other day around here. i havent been hunting yet this year because it costs a little too much to get on the lease that i was on last year.

and as for the quick shots, im getting better at it. its not one totally smooth motion, but its almost there. and yeah, i held that first shot for what seemed like an eternity, and my right hand and arm was shaking so bad that im surprised the noise from my release shaking didnt scare him away lol. ill be sure to never do that again.
