I've been playing guitar for about 16 years. Off and on that is. For about 3 years I was in a blues band then went on to form my own band playing covers of 80's and 90's rock and alternative bands. We played all of the local bars and clubs and had a blast. I am trying to get back into it with one of the guys that was in the rock band with me. He plays guitar as well and will be doing back up vocals for me . I would start with an electric unless you plan on playing acoustic type stuff. It all depends on what kind of music you are into I guess. I've been all metal and rock . I'm starting to calm down though in my old age. I would have to agree about the fender. I started with a squire as well. You can get them now cheap. Try looking for a pawn shop in your area. They always have stuff like that. I now play an Ibanez gs 470 also a Jackson kelly standard. Looks live Dave Mustaines axe. Plus I also bought an old Fender squire just to have a guitar to tune down andd not be worried about messing up my good shit. Good luck, just get dedicated and have fun with it.

I've got 3.  A cheap epiphone that I learned on, a cheap squire for the rare times I wanna play electric, and my pride and joy - an Ovation Adamas 1597:  (Oooooo)

Ovations are pimp, i dont know much about it, but is it the old style? As in is it made from special materials on the back.. or is ti just a bubbly black surface (looks like rhino liner) :shrugani:

The back does have some texture built in. Unfortunately with the rounded bodies they tend to slip around alot. The texture helps but still takes some getting used to. What I love is the carbon fiber top. The sound it produces is amazing - super clean and ultra crisp.
