Toomey Banshee
OK, I have searched on here thoroughly. It seems those that have done the actual porting add few comments and those that are thinking of the job ask a boat load of questions. I am really thinking about the templates for the 99 and really need some feedback. I just did the top end with Wesico pro lites and bored first over. If I rip the jugs off over the winter and port them with the templates is it an easy enough job? I have done almost everything to that shee (the 99) and am fairly confident I can handle this port job. Is there any hidden kicks in the crotch I need to look out for? As for performance, is it noticible? Should we just wait and have it ported by someone else for 600 bux or so or do it myself for roughly 200 bux after template and tool purchase? After porting is it a pain in the arss to jet? Should I have to rejet? Stock carbs on the 99 at sea level. Thanx alot for the help.
Fireman-hott
Dremel + Templates will be fine. I did mine easily. Take your time dont rush, as its gonna take hours to do. I spent ~3hours a cylinder, give or take 30min. Dremel doesn't make a 90* tool that can get at the transfer port, The transfer is not included with the templates. I haven't gotten a chance to ride mine since I did that as I'm not done overhauling it yet. I from what others have said it is definately a noticable increase in power. Hope I helped. Feel free to ask anymore questions. Sorry I should add that yes you will need to rejet. Actually you could kill 2 birds with one stone, do the porting yourself for $200 and spend the remaining $400 on the trinity 2into 1 carb setup. Much much easier to jet. SyNtAxx
Hello, I had my cyclinders ported by Passion racing for alot less then $600 beans..... Infact he ported, bored and supplied pistons for less than that..... I would give him a call before you go chopping away at your jugs..... roosthrower
the satisfaction of porting your own jugs though is a good feeling I'd imagine. While you are grinding away though, port match the cases and get rid of all the casting flaws. Most of them will be in the transfer area at the bottom of the cylinders. I'd do some reading too on what you are actually trying to accomplish by porting your cylinders. macdizzy.com has some good information and pictures with good explanations. the guys at planetsand.com could give you some pointers too.
