United Pot Smoker
i know its been coverd before but, whats the causes of more smoke out of one pipe than the other. i get a little smoke at 32;1 with yamalube 2R. but after its been running and i hit WOT all the smoke stops all together. could it be a crank seal or what? i got the 2-1 carb setup with new top end gaskets. i havent done a leek down yet but will before open heart sergury if thats what it comes down to. thanks
limitied03
hmm im no expert but maybe check your reeds, and or it could be the crankseal barely starting to leak...well you said its smokes while at idle and goes away at WOT...maybe nothings wrong...i mean all 2 strokes smoke some more than others. Mine smokes a little at idle but once im on the gas it goes away but check those two things, but as for any other problems....hmm better get the banshee guru's Edited October 5, 2004 by limitied03
FIRST BANSHEE
There could be many problems. Iwould check compression, One side might be a little wore and take longer to warm up and seal. check your carbs, clean if needed.
Toomey Banshee
If it was a crank seal it would smoke all the time. Being that you have 1 carb and it smokes more out of one pipe than the other that eliminates synching the carbs. Did it always do this? Some bikes just typically smoke more out of one pipe than the other. Also, its normal for the smoke to clear when its warmed up.

Meat
smokin' out one side can be caused by a stuck ring. one shee's warmed up, the seal improves and the smokin' lessens.
racer
more smoke out of one pipe than the other maybe the other guy is puffing harder.
KRMit
Mine smokes real bad when I first crank it, but almost goes away completely after riding for a little while. I'm thinking it's the oil settling. Castor did it, but it's gotten worse since going to 2R. Mine also smokes out one side more than the other. Always has, just was worse when I had dual carbs. It still does it with a single carb setup? I've seen this quite a bit over the last couple years asked. Only conclusions I've come to is that its a difference in design a little bit between the two sides. Casting flaws etc. I've heard of a few people going to aftermarket carbs and they've noticed it went away, so I've always thought it was a difference between the two carbs making the one run a tiny bit richer than the other. If your saying the one still does it more than the other with a single carb setup, maybe its something in the design of the cylinders, cases etc, that is causing the one side to run a little richer. Who knows, if it runs good and its not lean.....drive it like its stolen.
KRMit
It still does it with a single carb setup? Yes, although not as bad. I swapped out reed cages at the same time. Who knows?
