German Shepherd Posted October 4, 2004 Report Share Posted October 4, 2004 Ok Im thinking of getting a bike. I am looking at the harley fat boy or a crotch rocket. I picked the suzuki GSXR series. Should I get a 600 or do you think I could handel a 1000 right away? How hard are these to rise, any tips? Am I ohmost garenteed to get hurt on a bike? I hate harleys anyhow...lol Also keep in mind that harleys are usually heavy bikes. I would alos not start on a 1000cc crotch rocket either..it may be just my cautious nature. Have you ever ridden a crotch rocket...or any street bike for that matter ? Only you know your abilities. I tend to be over cautious some times... banshdog Posted October 4, 2004 Report Share Posted October 4, 2004 If you have never ridden a "crotch rocket" then yes it can be difficult. The biggest thing is turning and maneuvering at low speeds. Once you get going, the bike will basically keep a straight line, turning involves more leaning than turning of the bars. You wont get hurt if you take the time to learn how to ride, and ride safe. I had a 2001 GSX-R 600 as my first bike, loved it. but once i was used to it i wanted something bigger. not that i needed it, that bike will haul major ass! money wise, dont know your situation, but i would look at bikes that are a year or two old but in perfect condition. new bikes can be damn expensive (especially the 1000, which is also an expensive bike to insure). dont forget that parts are damn expensive too ( i dropped mine, repairs were outrageous). not sure where you are located, but like here in MI where there is an off season, you can find good deals in the winter and early spring. brock_fuzzy_69 Posted October 4, 2004 Report Share Posted October 4, 2004 my personal thoughts would be to get a smaller slower bike for the first year or 2 whats the point of having a big bad go like hell rocket if you dont really knwo hwo to ride yet and i woudl want to take the riding course.....her ein il they are free and you can get a big insurance disccount for taking it price insurance on each and every biek you looka t too it is scary what soem bikes cost to insure i persoanlly woudl try to pick up a few year old suzuki GS 500 nice bikes decent handling and very low seat heigth the local biek shop guy told me a statistic of bike insurance 40% of new sport bikes get wrecked before they reach there first payment i guess that explains why they are so pricey to insure Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was thinking one of those suites and a full face helmet. Did you get hurt when You layed it down? How fast were you going? I was going to take a personal loan from a family member since I am 18 and the insurance would be insane. I also was going to get zero coverage for my self. Big Blue Posted October 4, 2004 Report Share Posted October 4, 2004 if you are into riding comfortably you probably wont want the gsxr series and the 750/1000 are not good beginer bikes by any means neither is the 600 but it can be done, harleys are a waste in my opinion and pieces of shit. There are some really good metric cruiser out there. If you are more into the sport bike style look into some of the naked styles. like the suzuki sv650(rated one of the best and there are quite a few for sale on the used market) Yamaha fz6(i currently have this bike) and the Honda 600 hornet all are supposed to be great bikes. nater006 Posted October 5, 2004 Report Share Posted October 5, 2004 (edited) out of curiousity (and not because I'm a 900RR rider..) why did you pick the GSXR series? All of the bikes are pretty kickin now -- go to a stealership and sit on a few and find out what fits you, also. My 900RR wasn't the fastest bike out when I got it but it felt a lot better than the others did for me. Also, like the others said, if its your first bike, start small. The GSXRs are bitchy but fast, and a 600 will probably be overkill as it is. Oh and.. *don't* buy a Harley. Yeah its an American made cruiser, etc etc, but it is just a name. The metric cruisers have it in every catagory, from reliability right on down to price.. by a long shot!
