boonman Posted October 3, 2004 Report Share Posted October 3, 2004 You NEED to get yaself a Clymer service manual. Available anywhere Yamaha parts are found, for about $20. On the splitting of the case(s), there aren't really any "special" tools needed, just some know-how..... You need to get the clutch assembly off, the top end, and a few other things. flywheel comes to mind, so therefore you WILL NEED a flywheel puller. NOT a jaw style puller that you have laying in the garage. This needs to be the thread in type. Meat Posted October 3, 2004 Report Share Posted October 3, 2004 dont' use a screwdriver to pry those halves apart. Rubber mallet, patience and a buddy to help and you can pull the halves apart. Its also a good idea to make a bench mount to mount your motor to. Make a box out of 2x4's or whatever you can find. Put the motor in the ho'made box and mount everything to your workbench so you can work on the motor without it floppin' around. good luck, take your time, use common sense, take pictures with a digi camera if your unsure about anything. You'll be fine, just don't go cutting any corners or do any of the work half assed, or you'll be sorry. Do it right the first time. good luck with it, holler if you need any specific help. nater006 Posted October 3, 2004 Report Share Posted October 3, 2004 Had my first experience with this earlier in the year.. took the 8 nuts off of the bottom, and whacked it with a deadblow hammer a few dozen times. Nothing. Finally RTFM and found there were 8 on top also Anyway, what worked perfectly for me was [after] removing the nuts, just smack it with a dead-blow hammer with a rubber head on it. It started drifting right apart after a few good hits. Just RTFM and take all the studs out or nuts off first (mine came out about.. 50% studs, 50% of the nuts came off..hehe) and have at 'er.
