AZ DESERT RACER
My banshee has been broken down for a few years and I'm wondering how to tell if the clutch needs servicing, replacing or nothing at all. The engine is out of the bike right now so it's real easy to work on. Any information is greatly appreciated.
kenr74
Pull the plates and soak them in clutch fluid for a day or so.
fixitrod
Even new clutch plates only need about 15 min worth of soaking. If you have a stock clutch you can get the fiber and steel thickness tolerances from the clymers manual. Other than that, by feel once you get it running. It the clutch was fine when when the quad broke down, it should be fine now. Edited October 2, 2004 by fixitrod
AZ DESERT RACER
So no matter what its a good idea to soak the plates? It's been a while since I've done a clutch, hopefully the book gives good directions. Thanks for the responses.
AZ DESERT RACER
One more question- what type of fluid should I soak the plates in? Will 10-30 or trans. fluid work or is it some special lubricant?

Whatever fluid you decide to use in the tranny. Book says 10w30

Never heard of that. Seems they wouldn't mix well but who knows.
