German Shepherd
On tuesday I was lifting and did this new exercise where you use a lat pull down machine, stand up and do push downs, but You use alot of weight and swing/cheat. I HATE CHEATING in my exercises b/c its dangerous. I was using about 140 pounds. The next day wed (yesterday) I had no pain, nothing out of the ordinary. I went last night and did 5 miles in 60 minutes on an eliptical machine set at 11 resistance. My sholder started to burn a little like usual. Now this morning I wake up with alot of paine in my left sholder. It hurts in the front and part of the side. I can lift my arm over my head front and side ways BUT IT HURTS BAD . If I dont put pressure on it i.e. just have it on a counter it does not hurt. What does it sound like I did to it????? Thanks
Fireman-hott
Well its not your rotator cuff. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to so much as lift it even to the floor. Although it could just be your average strain. 20min ice, 20min heat for a few hours.
German Shepherd
Thanks for the advice.... I hope its not my rotator cuff. I sure dont want surgery.
94BansheeRider
Just out of curiosity, how old are you? I had the same pain in my right shoulder, right between the collar bone and the outside of the shoulder. At first they thought it was rotator cuff. After several MRI's and Ultrasounds, the doc said it was arthritis. Go figure. I'm only 35. It hurt like hell for about 6 months. Couldn't even sleep. Finally had a couple of cortizone shots in the front of the shoulder. I have about 90% back now but it still hurts every once in a while. By the way, I was carrying some lumber on my shoulder when it started. I don't let it stop me from riding, that's for sure. It actually feels better when I do. Hope you find out it's nothing serious. Cotton eyed Joe
I strained the hell out of my right shoulder once by sleeping on it wrong, and it felt just like you describe. I could do over head presses with 135 for about 6 reps, and the next week I couldn't lift 10 lbs. It took nearly 8 months for it to heal. I slept with my head on my arm, almost like if I had my arm up above my head, except I was laying on it....make sense? Right now I'm battling a tendonitis in my left arm........Makes working biceps and back a real bitch.
banshee04le
I had shoulder pain for a while and tried to train through it but it would not get any better. I had to lay off shoulders and bench for about 4 months. If it feels like joint pain and not muscle pain, I wouldn't suggest pushing it when it hurts. Give it time. ondeeeznuts
Sounds like pulled ligaments or pulled muscle. This is how mine looked: Going on 9 weeks now, still stiff, but its coming around. Had 1 1/2" of ligament cut out and sewed back together, NOT FUN
DUNEDEMON
Sounds like deltoid, mine is torn right now, healing slowly according to the DR yesterday afternoon. Go get it looked at.
German Shepherd
I am 18. I have been lifting since I have been like 11. I weigh about 205 pounds with 15% body fat. I could do over heads of a 50 db in each arm for 10 reps or a olimpic bar with a 45 on each side for 7 reps. It feels better today however I came home from school early. I think and hope its only pulled. I think I will drop down to 180 since prolonged lifting will require the surgery.
