decon
when they idle, the 2 strokes are louder and the 4 strokes are low, but they hit the throttle and start moving away the 4 strokes get real loud and the 2 strokes sound just fades and is lower. just watch this video, the banshees are barely loud compared to the 4 strokes riding up the hill: http://www.quicksandmotorsports.com/mpegs/jump.mpg . I think someone needs to bring this up with some of the SVRA riding sites. they passed that bull about the 2 strokes being loud just to give them another way to put more shit on 2 strokes so they can ban them. Oh yea, another thing. BriggsRi if u ride in forests and stuff u might want to go with a banshee from 1987-2002 because 03-05 banshees are red stickered, meaning they cant even ride through more than half od the year. I think its from october to june or soemthin. Edited September 28, 2004 by dEcon
BriggsRi
Hey dEcon, Is this red tag law for all states, or just a few select states? I was reading an EPA post and if this reduced EPA law gets passed, two-stroke machine will have to purchase bolt-on's to help reduce emissions. Some four strokes will need a "strap-on" as well. My local dealers really don't have any in-put on this EPA thing - they just want to sell, sell, sell.
ehall1
in new york (so far) we dont have any difference in when and what year we can ride. my 03 i ride whenever but not much in winter cause of drastic temperature changes like 40 degrees to minus 25. but mines stock pipes and not noisy at all. as for differences in sound its like the crack of a 22 caliber (2stroke) and the boom of a shotgun (4-stroke) they're both loud if your 70 years old. damn tree huggers

BriggsRi
dEcon The emissions after market up grade issues for 2 strokes / 4 strokes sounds like the same for a car - clean air and noise. The strap-on part was Joke, I thought?!? LOL...
fixitrod
There is nothing funnier to ride than a banshee... well, I guess I can think of a couple
nasty01banshee
Another thing I have heard - is that if this EPA thing gets passed, all two and four stokers will have to do some emissions mods at a cost to owners from $50 to the sky is the limit. ha !!!!!! if it ain't registered and i can't ride it on the street, then they can stick their emissions up their ass...............
