Best times so far but...

Well, I went to the drag strip today (asphalt), and pulled my best times yet, but I was still hoping for a few tenths better. Granted, I am still on my stock 1995 bald front tires and rims, and have 22" ITP 6-ply holeshots w/blaster rims on the rear, but I expected a little more on my new setup. My setup...350 stock stroke and bore (bore actually .020" over, but has .007-.009 piston clearance (slop!)), compression 145psi, alky, 12* advance, 34mm PJs, CPI inframes, drag porting (specs that CPI actually gave me), stock length swingarm w/homemade wheelie bar. Gearing 16/41. Spun like hell from the launch most every time. Towards the end, I started sitting back just a little, putting the wheelie bar to the test and got some better holeshots, but when I did that, I tried 3 times to shift into 5th and it wouldn't shift. The last run I did, same thing, but tried twice to get into 5th and wouldn't take. Shifting near 10,500 didn't help mesh the gears either! Here was my best time before I did good holeshots but couldn't shift...reaction- .652 sec, 60ft-1.902, 1/8 et-7.972 @ 82.55, 1/4 et-13.122@92.82. I'm happy with it, but really might have seen the 12's if my last 2 runs w/good hooking holeshots would have shifted! Here's what I don't understand...My stock banshee carbs on alky have .120" mains w/ a turn or two open on the adjustable powerjets, and to get the egts up to the same temps, the 34mm's had to get the mains dropped down to .100", and the adj powerjets closed! How in the world is it that to get the same egt temps, that the 34's don't have bigger mains?! It doesn't make sense to me! And to top it off, I saw no noticeable power difference from the stock alky carbs to the 34's. It does run good, but I can't believe the 34s arent making a worthwhile difference. That does sound weird, usually when you put more air into your motor you would need to supplement it with more fuel. There must be some kind of issue with how much air you motor will draw. This could be effected by, bore size, porting or even reed setup. But even with your setup i wouldn't think that you would need a smaller jet with a bigger carb. :blink:

I'm not trying to divert you to another site by no means. This is the best banshee site I've ever been on but the guys at planed sand love to drag race. You should also post your question there. The really know a lot about some of the alky and big stuff out there.
