blk02banshee
Snap-On is just a name that you pay extra for. A lot of their stuff is made by bluepoint...same damn thing, just half the price. I do like their tools, but if you don't work at a shop that the truck comes to, it is'nt worth buying snap-on. I've bought a lot of Mac, Matco, and cornwell tools, and cornwell is probably the best value. Craftsman, on the other hand, is pretty decent, and the easiest to get. They also stand behind their tools 100% and will replace them, no questions asked.
racer
A lot of their stuff is made by bluepoint...same damn thing, just half the price. i heard it the other way-around. i heard that snap-on makes matco, bluepoint, husky and kobalt, and snap-on of course. but you say that bluepoin is half the price? that should make it pretty reasonable. blk02banshee
Blue Point is a lot cheaper than snap-on. Craftsman's hand tools...wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, etc., is made by craftsman. Their other stuff like power tools is made by other companies. My SAE wrenches are from K-mart . I've had them for about 14 years, and they hold up as good as anything, and are guaranteed for life(If I could find a K-mart, lol)
racer
blue point sounds like the way to go. anyone know where i could come across this? and what should i get first. im goin to start with the box so should i start at the top or bottom? a top chest would be nice cause its cheaper and i dont like the way bottom chests look when they are bare on top. or should i shoot down the big expenses first and go for the roller cabinet first? KGL
Craftsman , cant beat the guarantee , but if it breaks at work my company replaces it no problem. Whatever box you get make sure it fits your application ,are you rolling it out to the job or will it stay in one spot?
racer
stationary, except for maybe an occasional garage cleaning
boonman
At work, Craftsman, or Stanley, or whatever else is there... At home, Craftsman, if I have bought it. My box(es) are craftsman, and so are 90% of the tools in there. I have a KAL equip compression tester, and some other equipment (testing wise) from KAL, but my hand tools are craftsman. The MAC or Snap-On truck doesn't come to my house, and I don't see the need to pay the big bucks. I rarely break a tool. And when I do, the wife is usualy home to go fetch me another one... I have used alot of tools. Friends that swear by Snap On, and when their shit breaks, And I am there, I got the tool box in the bed of the truck, and get them some craftsman tools. They always work. IMHO, you can't beat Craftsman for price and reliability..... But, their jacks, now that's another story....
KGL
Just curious , as most wheels are sheeot for regular use. I roll mine out to jobs and have a frame with "real" wheels on it that my boxes set in. Normal wheels are fine for your application , I'd buy a roller box first, unless youve got bench space for your top box. Alot of boxes are similar , but you can tell if theyre too cheezy by opening a drawer. If it opens/closes with alot of drag empty it will be ten times worse when full of tools... some have roller bearings on their drawer slides now, oooh nice. Also get ones with internal locking mechanisms, do not buy the ones with the keyhole almost on the floor(bott. box)or with the hokey bars you have to pull in/out , theyre annoying. All these features CAN be found on a cheaper box, you just got to compare brands and see what you like. Stay away from the tool truck guys unless you want a second mortgage! Ok , Im done yappin now.
