trail rider
Has anyone seen the new 05 400ex? with the 450r front end, reverse, and "revised" gear ratios? The MSRP is like $5,799. I think it was $5,299 for the 04 verison. In my honest opinion, I think this is a pretty damn good quad. I think it looks way better than the 450r, the big 400ex fenders just kinda look better with that front end then the sharp, pointed fenders of the 450r. Now that it has reverse, like most other 4 strokes, it is just now up to par. Don't know about the "new revised gear ratios", I didn't have a problem with the old ones. The new 05 400ex is now 2nd on my list of quads that I plan to buy, the banshee is still numba 1.
01bansheeke
The 400's are great quads. I've owned too so far. I wouldn't knock em. Top notch reliability. Even though they are down on power, i think reverse makes them a MUCh better quad. Its obvious that 400's are no longer THE starting point for race bikes, so why not make it something that the general public would want for recreation. I can't count how many times I have had to lift my girls 400 up and turn it around for her...wouldn't happen with reverse.
locogato11283
hey man i think you are on the wrong site. try www.exriders.com. jk with ya. the 400ex's are very reliable bikes. bad thing about them is now you have to put a lot of money in them to make them keep up with even z400's. Yeah I agree my friend poured about a grand into his 400ex, piston, pipe, fan, cylinders ect. And he lost against a piped Z400 bad. ( I'm not sure exacally what he has on his 400 because he was so pissed off he wouldn't talk too much about it)

wantinashee
the 400ex is a damn reliable quad and i have beat piped and stock z's with mine when it was all stock, skills is probly why. now mine hase a pipe k&n and jetting but havent lined up with a z yet but the 05 will prob kill me with the new cam. my friend is getting an 05 ex in a couple of months so ill see if the gearing is different, hopfully first isnt so low. spud
ledofthezep
For my girl it's an alright bike...would like the reverse though for when I take it to the bathrooms. But seriously, if you get a good full exhaust system, air filter, & jetting...against a Z with the same mods, I don't see the Z hanging. Don't have anything against the Z's though...stock for stock currently I'd probably rather have a Z400 myself. The 400 is a lot of fun though, good trail bike & fun to play on; definately one of the best wheelie quads I've owned...just behind the good 'ol 200SX! This sounds exactly like the quad that a friend wants. Edited September 27, 2004 by mrmatt

If I sold that thing now, I'd be wishing I had only kidney stones to worry about. I'll mention it to her...try pulling a wallrat & see about a yfz...
