XxMeltIcexX
Hey, i have a 1996 Banshee. I Bought it off a friend and i need either buy a new crank ro rebuild my existing one. I know a guy who does this kinda stuff, and he tells me he can rebuild my crank for 275 and true it. He says he doesnt like welding them because it weakens the crank.. Is this true?? And is this a good deal for what hes doing?? Thanks, Eric

2Smoker
Well your bike is a 96, I would be getting a new crank assembly for the bike instead of replacing a couple of bearings. When that guy said he can rebuild the crank, did he mean replacing everything? You're better off spending the extra money to get a new crank. Tony Doukas Racing Crankshafts 400 american you get a trued and welded crank, and you send the old one to them for the core refund. My crank went about 2 months ago. I have a 99 shee. The needle bearing where the rod connects to the inner web on the crank exploded and siezed. The bearings on the crank were in rough shape too. Both rods were cooked. I was looking at alot of money by the time I got 2 rod kits and an inner web (because the pin was worn) and the inner webs on the stock banshee cranks aren't rebuildable. I went and got a completely rebuilt crank from a place in canada, same deal about 400 bucks and I sent my old crank off to them and I have been driving my shee ever since on amsoil dominator 32:1 and its working good. I really find it hard to believe he can overhaul your crank for that price. I think alot of people on this board will agree that you should get a new crank assembly instead of trying to fix the one you have. And no, welding doesn't weaken it. It makes it stronger. HERE IS A BETTER PICTURE OF THE WELD. THE REASON FOR WELDING THE CRANK IS SO THE CRANK JOURNALS WONT EVER SPIN LOOSE AND THROW THE CRANK OUT OF BALANCE AND CAUSE ALL KINDS OF NASTY PROBLEMS. IF YOUR REPLACING YOUR CRANKSHAFT AND YOUR ENGINE IS MODIFIED WITH PIPES, FILTER, TIMING ADVANCE AND PORTING, THEN I RECOMMEND GETTING YOUR NEW CRANKSHAFT WELDED TO HOLD UP TO ALL THE HORSEPOWER THESE BANSHEE'S CAN PUT OUT. BANSHEE BOTTOM END GUIDE Go to that link and check it out. Hope that helps Edit : Oh and get that seal kit too. You will have to replace your crank seals (2) when you get the new crank put in. Might as well replace all the other seals when you have the bottom end apart. Edited September 16, 2004 by 2Smoker
