road racer
Is it safe to run stock needles or do I need to change to toomey needles? What about dyno jet needles? Are they the same? Will they be better than stock? I already have different pilots and mains , just wondering about possible midrange needle problems if there are any. thanks, road racer
gonzoret
its OK if you run your stock needle, i dont know if your bike is stock or not but on the ones that i have done i almost always leave it on the 3rd possition, sometimes 4th. i have a toomey needle in my bike know and its also at the 3rd but i did some work and will be putting it in the 4th and testing it soon. most of the time you leave your pilots stock and just change the mains to a bigger size. just my experience, hope that helps
sredish
stock in the 4th clip if your under 1,500 or so feet. aftmkt needles suck if all you have are pipes and other small doodads.
Toomey Banshee
FYI, Dynojet needles ARE Toomey needles. As far as do you need to change them, in 2000 I put the Toomeys on my 99 Shee and I changed the whole deal, mains and needles. Havent had any problems with it to date. Dynojets needles are somewhat thicker than stockers, performance wise I couldnt tell you. Just ran the Dyno needles from the get go.
sredish
The Dynojet needle is simply a Blaster needle. Some run them and don't have trouble, but I've seen a lot that have trouble dialing them in, and I think they hinder midrange performance with Toomey pipes. Take it as you will. DBLtapS
I agree with redish. I have an 04 shee with T-6's 's, high flow air kit, boost botle(dont waste your cash if you think yur gonna get hp, I got it more for looks,) G3 powercurve reeds and spacer. I just re-jetting again and I think its finally dialed in with a 27.5 idle, 290 main, and 1.5 turns on the screw. I have my STOCK clip in the 4th position. The toomey needle was just too rich in the mid range. It helped my low end a bit too.... No one can tough me on the hill. I smoked an 04 450R yesterday BEFORE I rejetting. Hope that helps. o-yea.... 75 degrees F. Michigan :evil :
road racer
Thanks guys; It seems to run ok with stock needles in the 4 th clip and 340 mains, 30 pilots. It may be a little flat just before it comes on the pipe. Mods are ported, shaved head, carbon fiber reeds, ported cages, modded air box cover , at sea level Plugs look good on top end with 340 mains. What do you guys think?
