Maverick302
I'm going through my fourth chain in the past 3 months and keep snapping them. I've given up on the expensive o or x-ring chains, they last longer against wear but i snap them before they even stretch fully anyway. Don't get me wrong i ride like a jackass most of the time (i snapped the last one doing donuts in a friends driveway), but does anyone else snap them this much? Everything is in line and the sprockets are fairly new, the chains just break a link. Also, anyone know where to get a handful of master links instead of a whole new chain? sredish
Well, you say it's straight but there's obviously something wrong. You should NOT go through chains like that. First place I'd like is in the carrier bearings or swingarm bearings. I have a feeling that something there is loose and causes your axle and/or swingarm to move side to side. It doesn't take much for it to start snapping chains. That's assuming your adjusting the chain properly.

Doing a donut puts side force on the axle and swingarm. You've got one or more bad bearings.
PolyKarbon
How much are new bearings anyway?
Holyman
It could be any of the bearings either in the pivot point at the frame or the carrier but I wouldn't rule out the sprockets. If the chain doesn't fit into the sprockets perfectly, the chain will walk up the teeth and it will put much more tension on the chain than just the abuse you are giving it. You also need to check your motor mounts, The rear may not be twisting but the engine may be twisting under torque but sit relatively correct when at a stand still. If you need the pivot bearings, let me know I can give you the HQ discount. Send me an email... IHRbearings@peoplepc.com
nickxc
You've got one or more bad bearings my guess too. try to support your rear end and see if you can twist your axle at all... I know I do burnouts and doughnuts in the road all the time. I get her in the high R's on pavement and let off and immediatly hit it again (just for the head wrenching feeling of that 2 stroke twin) and this snaps the chain back and forth hard and Im still on my stock chain and sprokets and mines an 01 I do go throught head gaskets like its my job though so dont feal bad... anyway Id def. check those bearings out cause your chain wont bend back and forth with out breaking... good luck!! oldturtle
I agree with Shredish that you need to check that chain adjustment. The only safe way is to compress the suspension all the way and check tension through the full travel. Also you should think about getting a good case saver like the TM Designs non metal version. sredish
Holymans right about the sprockets. It could be something simpler like new chain, worn out sprockets and the chain is walking up. Anytime you put on a new chain, you should replace the sprockets if they also have any wear. Maverick302
The left wheel hub loosened a little and won't tighten any more. That's most likely my problem. Well, that and the burnouts.
