humilde
hey guys whats the diference between the pwk and the pj's?
Indubitably
I guess you could say that the PJ's would be considered "old school", whereas PWK's would be "new school". I don't think there is much difference in performance, just size so i guess that would make a difference. Seems like a lot more people use the PJ's for alky idk y tho. banshee370
The PJ is a round slide where as the PWK is a flat or ("D") slide. Round slide carbs are better suited for low/mid range power where the Flat slides are better for top/mid range. Now when running alky the PJ's are a great carb to modify. If all your going to be running is gas/race fuel, then I would suggest the PWK's. Due to the design of them you will get better throttle response. brock_fuzzy_69
actually a PJ soems in an oval shaped slide not really a round slide the PWK has an actual real idle adjustment screw on it thats easier to use and the PWK can be had with air strykers.........little tabs that direct the airflow more over the needle area than normal and the PWK has a different vent setup ont he newer ones thats made to prevent fuel from sloshing up into the carb when you get air thats all that i understand that is different and the little piece that holds the needle into position is different ont ehpwk it thread in instead of the pj with is a quarter turn sorta deal but they both use the same basic design and jets fuel bowls floats needle choke knob etc etc.
United Pot Smoker
i just put on a 34 pj and its called a flat side carb. its not round like the stick ones. i would suggest to use the right size though. if you port it and get new reds then i would get a bigger one but for just a carb upgrade i would prolly just go with 28 or 33's. i heard that they stoped making the pj carb back in 2000 or soehting. does anyone know anything about that? SANDSTAR
One funky thing about my pjs- to get my bike to idle, I have to slightly choke eack carb. I don't really like the idea of running with the choke on, so my banshe will not idle for more than 5 sec. A buddy with pj carbs was complaning about his plugs fouling after every ride, so I turned his chokes all the way off and changed his needle one notch. Fine after that, but no idle. I don't know if pwk's have this same qwerk.
SDD
On PJ's if you have the correct pilot jet and air screw settings you can get them to idle just fine. It's like the stock carbs you have to choke it and kick it until it starts. Once it starts you leave the choke on for a few seconds and blip the throttle until it warms up enough that it will idle without the blipping the throttle. This is how I set up PJ's to run. On PWK's you set the idle with the idle screws as you would stock carbs with the TORS removal kit on it. You will still need to use the choke to start the motor and blip the throttle until it warm. The PJ's are discontinued but are still easy to find. I like the PJ's for the idle/choke setup which makes setting up the right hand carb much easier.
