amp link install and chain tension

Recommended Posts

Got an amplink off ebay with no directions. I did an HQ search but they really only cover peoples opinions on there "worth" I put it on last night and it seemed pretty straight forward but I have a few questions since it had no instructions.

1. Do I have to remove the chain roller that is mounted on the swingarm pivot bolt? I clears ever so slightly but wasnt sure if it needed to come off or not?

2. Im pretty sure the chain now needs to be adjusted with the quad up on a stand (rear suspension hanging free) but im not sure how much slack i should have or should I adjust it so its tight?

Just wanted to get her done so I can go riding after work today. Input or any other comments or tips would be welcome and appreciated.

Thanks

tom

1. You are supposed to, but if you can get away w/out removing it, you might as well leave it on.

2. They suggest adjusting the chain at full suspension drop, but mine was tightest at normal ride height, so that it where I adjusted it. I tightened my chain until there was 3/4 - 1" of slack in the chain. Which is quite a bit tighter than w/out the amp link.

Make sure the rollers are aligned properly with the chain. If not it will destroy the rollers, your front sprocket, and most likely your chain. You can move the rollers by using a large socket and hammer. They are a press fit on the aluminum spacers.
