sredish
We used to hit Walden a lot, but we have started riding Killpecker Dunes in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Way bigger than Walden with a lot better dunes. Walden has become so crowded with nutjobs here in the last few years that we don't go there much. I got a good friend that lives over by killpecker,...they buggy there quite a bit actually. Hopefully someday I'll make it up that way and check them out myself. Killpecker is an awesome place to ride, I believe I have talked to you about riding at Walden before. If you are in the area, just take the extra 3 hours to go to Killpecker because it is definately worth it. I'm going to be riding Killpecker over the Labor Day weekend, and I'll get lots of pictures. I assume you ride Little Sahara, OK--Killpecker's dunes are quite a bit bigger than LS and there is about 13,000 ridable acres of 43,000 total. It is a challenging place to ride because the wind carves razorbacks all over the dunes. I can't wait for Saturday Damn, that's a lot of area. I don't think I've ever even heard of that place, and trust me, I'd remember a name like "killpecker". That's like the name of some twisted Tarantino movie. Killer_Shee
According to the BLM, it is the largest sand dune system in North America. The dunes that are closed are actually a lot taller than the ones that are legal to ride on. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking as well--wild horses, mountains in the background, and an imposing volcanic spire called Boar's Tusk. Killpecker truly is a hidden treasure, and can provide one of the most thrilling dune rides you will ever experience. The fact that it is such a remote location is a benefit IMO--you can get back in the dunes with your buddies and never see another soul. Even on the busy weekends I would guess there are only 500 or so people there. Edited September 1, 2004 by Killer_Shee
