sredish
Or should I say, how hard is it to make them competitive? I know IMS/Elka has a pretty sweet 700. I've never ridden one, but with a pipe and some other small mods, how competitive can they be? I've been getting the itch for a thumper in the XC stuff and have been weighing some options. I don't want the yfz, partly because there is so freaking many. I'd like a Z400, but they're just underpowered and I'm afraid it'd take too much $$ to get the power there. I know some of you will say how slow or bad or something, but they actually handle pretty damn good, if they just had a few more ponies, they'd be right on top of the yfz. The idea of the KFX700 is really intriguing me, something big with an assload of torque. I don't like the auto stuff, but I've heard the power is so strong and it actually clutches pretty good, I've also heard there is an aftmkt company that will be coming out with a manual conversion, maybe i'm wrong but I heard that. I'd sure like some valuable input, not immature bashing. Later.
banshee04le
Well, I've ridden my friends with me behind him on my banshee...does that even make sense...any way, we were rippen through some pretty tight winding narrow flat trails...not woods trails...like badlands...and like I said, he was in front on my banshee, and he is an experienced rider...he has had several banshees and still has one. Torque is right...I felt like I could mow him down... it handled really sweet for a big machine...and if the trail was wider I would have smoked right past him...I think it was mainly the difference in him loosing traction every time he would accelarate after slowing...plus having to clutch...where as the big machine would not spin as much and the torque is definitely there with the 700...with the Dalton clutch mods it hooks up quite nicely. In a flat out drag on the other hand, my banshee smokes him very badly.
Banshee~
I rode one theve got torque out the ass....if you get one there coming out with a stage 3 ignition. Its got the stage 2 on there now, its gonna be sweet...when my friend gets his ill let you know what i think
sredish
thanks for the reply man. i've been searching like mad to see how potent they are and what can be done for them. I'm wondering how tippy it is/feels? I mean, blasting through the woods, do you ever feel like your pushing it's limits pretty easy or is it pretty stable? Thanks again for the reply b04le
Banshee~
I was watching a atv show and they were flying threw the woods on it, but when I rode it we were at Little Sahara
Killer_Shee
You can make the KFX as bad as you want. I've got mine hooked up with full Dalton clutch components, dual pipes, opened airbox, and 6* flywheel key--it will rip like mad. We go and ride the woods a lot during the fall/winter, but I haven't had it in the woods with the clutch kit and timing advance. During the summer, it is strictly dune season around here and the paddle tires never come off. The way I have my clutch set up now is so aggressive, the reverse rev limiter kicks in before it will engage the clutches It's interesting having to hold the reverse override button just to get it to go in reverse My KFX in it's current state is easily as fast as my old Banshee with quite a few mods. The one thing I will say though is the stock front suspension is terrible and needs replaced if you ride any whoops at all. Here is a little video of my KFX at Walden, CO racing my buddies piped and cammed 450R and a piped and cammed Z400. Walden, CO My machine is still bone stock internals, no cams, no high comp pistons--bone stock. Four Stroke Tech currently has an 800 kit out that is pushing 80 horse, and Mickey Dunlap is also working on a 900 for himself. I know a guy that runs Sand Mountain in Nevada with a FST 800 on NOS and beats almost everything he lines up against. Here's a picture of mine. If you want some good info on them, go check out the Kawieriders forum Edited August 31, 2004 by Killer_Shee
sredish
Very nice!! Damn, I was hoping you guys would be talking me out of it, but your making it worse. Looks like a nice ass ride, but why orange?? Killer, when I get hooked up on it, I'll need some mod help, so I'll look you up. Just realized you said Walden. I grew up in Steamboat, CO, and rode Walden for years while I was a youngin and in high school. Edited August 31, 2004 by sredish

I grew up in Steamboat, CO, and rode Walden for years while I was a youngin and in high school. Because everyone knows the orange ones are faster That and I like to be different If you buy, stay away from the limited editions with the lava or carbon fiber plastic. The process Kawi uses to get the textured look hardens the plastic and they break really easy. Steamboat, eh. I was there a couple times in my high school years on Snowboarding trips. I haven't been on a board for 10 years and I haven't been to a ski resort in 10 years either. I guess quads are just too much fun We used to hit Walden a lot, but we have started riding Killpecker Dunes in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Way bigger than Walden with a lot better dunes. Walden has become so crowded with nutjobs here in the last few years that we don't go there much. That video was the only trip we made there this summer. BansheeJen
So Scott are you going to make the XC race on the 11th and 12th? I would have to say I dont think ive seen a 700 at the races yet. But there may have been a couple. I dont always get to watch all the races as people come by. Dad rode one at the shop the other and said it has gobs of torque in stock trim. Raced a couple at Aledo and they are hella fast with the right stuff done to them. Got a pic of the new 05 one and it looked sweet with the special coloring but its durability could be an issue like mentioned above. Just dont let it flip over on ya, it'd be like picking up a Goldwing or something. The new Z is supposed to be a late addition in the spring of 05 supposedly with the new upped displacement. They race em GNCC events and do excellent in their class. MSRP not too bad I guess @ $6500. Let me know if you go to price one, I'll see if I can talk to the guy I bought mine from and let him know you are coming and HOT to buy
sredish
Hey Jen. I don't know that I'm going to buy one, just kinda been thinking. Yes, I'm going to make the race that weekend. I haven't gotten my "membership" all said and done, guess I better get on that. If youy see a guy on the frontage road of 82 on a mountain bike about ready to keel over and have a heart attack, that's me getting ready. Just got my springs resprung and am going out for a ride this very moment. Come on if you want. Just riding on my place here. Hey, what if I came down to your house and we got in that empty lot and did donuts? Wonder how long it'd take good 'ol Whitesboro PD to get there?? I thought about that the other day when I drove by. BansheeJen
Hehe that would be funny. The WPD cant do shyt no ways if you aint in the road. Now the lady that owns the lot and lives behind it in the brick house might get pissed if she saw ya, but she is deaf (literally) so I dont think she'd know it. At least the weather is getting better for biking now. I used to ride out by your house all the time and make a big loop around town. The first couple days sucked but it was all good after that, and you'll feel better at that first race for it too. Which house is your out there? I may seing by but I have some mowing to do first. Figure out the arrangements for going to the race yet? You can do your membership at the race. I would email and pick out a number though since you ordered number plates and get the bike numbered up before hand. It went smoother than running around looking for electrical tape and pie plates like some people. You can email him and ask to reserve a number and then when you make the first race you are locked in with the number so no one else can get it. They will reserve it for you luckily. They held mine for a couple of months thank goodness. I'll sling some sand for ya this weekend!
sredish
Yeah, I have plenty of room to ride, but nothing done up. I need to build a track or something. Dammit!! I'm the second entryway on the right (the only one with the gate), and there are two houses up here, I'm the second one. And a lot of times, I'm in the shop, which is the 4 door building your facing when you drive in, can't miss it.
2Smoker
Nac's racing sponsors a KFX700 which does pretty good. Check out this link.

Killpecker is an awesome place to ride, I believe I have talked to you about riding at Walden before. If you are in the area, just take the extra 3 hours to go to Killpecker because it is definately worth it. I'm going to be riding Killpecker over the Labor Day weekend, and I'll get lots of pictures. I assume you ride Little Sahara, OK--Killpecker's dunes are quite a bit bigger than LS and there is about 13,000 ridable acres of 43,000 total. It is a challenging place to ride because the wind carves razorbacks all over the dunes. I can't wait for Saturday Edited September 1, 2004 by Killer_Shee
