Im voting for leaving the wrench in the chuck on the lathe. Thats a classic!

LMFAO

There was a guy my dad worked with years ago before he started this business, and there was a guy that did that very thing. It got to the point that people would get out of the way when this guy was in the building. Being a government job, they could easily go somewhere for a few hours. One day I guess this Einstein fired up his lathe and the chuck wrench (for a 10" chuck) came out and slammed into a mill my dad was running. I guess my dad said it missed him by about 3 inches. He took the wrench, walked over to the guy and told him if he ever did that again he would stuff it up his ass. His supervisor liked that because it meant that he wouldn't have to talk to the guy about his bad shop habits. lol..

how big is the key for a 10 inch chuck?  seems like it may be rather large considering my 3/8 chuck key is about 4 times the size of the chuck itself.

Its in the shape of a T, and its about 6-8" long and around a 12-14" handle. I'll see if I can take a picture of the one we have at work. HEAVY is the word. I think its made from something like 3/4 steel for the body and 1/2 for the handle.

I'm sure it would bury itself deep into something soft like a humans head.

Well today after lunch we went in the shop. We are doing a buncha different shit right now cause the instructor wants to make sure everyone knows how to use the shit. So Froto (that's what we call him cause he's scary like people on Lord Of The Rings) is cutting this 5" diameter circle out of a piece of 1/8" steel with a jigsaw. When I did it, took about 5 minutes for me to whip one out of the steel. When this kid started it was about 1:00. By the time he pulled out a half-assed circle it was damn near 2:30/3:00. I did about 8 things in the time this fool was workin on a circle. Weeeee! Let the crazy stories begin!

I made a mistake yesterday when I said it took him almost 2 hours to finish cutting the circle....He actually finished it today about an hour into class. So it took him 2 days to finish the thing. We had a test today and one question was about a room. 4 walls all had to be painted, paint covers so many square feet of the walls. They are 21x13 or somethin like that. He mumbled somethin about not being a mathematician when he got on that question. I suck at math...even I can do that. I hate this kid. LOL

Speaking of calling the kid Frodo. I also have a kid I call Frodo because of this earing he got last spring. The damn thing is a about a 1" dia. hoop. Anyways, he is know knows as Frodo Lord of this Ring. However his previous nickname was "Fingers" on the count that he tried to remove jis finger last winter with a hose cutter. He had to have surgery for ligament damage and everything. I'd make fun of this kid more, but he's actually a good kid.

We also have kid that I have nick named "Special Ed," as in "Special Ed" from the show Crank Yankers. I'll tell stories about him later.

OMFG!!!! HE's bitching about figuring out a given area vs. a known quantity of paint, and how much area it will cover?? Thats simple math at best. HOW THE f*ck IS HE GOING TO BE A MACHNIST OR EVEN A HALF ASSED MAINTANENCE GUY??? I use trig nearly every time I start a job that I have not done before. Its not hard for hells sake. You just fill in the values, click the equals sign on the calculator and you're done. Ask him what "circular interpolation" is or even what a "quadrant" is. Be ready for him to smoke the tires on his IROC out of the parking lot.

Alright. I guess the fool is tryin to drop the class but it's too late or somethin so they won't let him. lol. Word is he's goin to the main dude councelor guy and get transfered or drop it completely. He left a quiz more than half blank today. It's an open everything quiz. All answers are in the book and worksheets we do. And he just sat there swearing at the quiz the whole time he was taking it. Then whatever the hell he was doin in the shop he sat and looked at it swearing around that it wasn't working. lol. I sure hope this kid is outa my class soon!
