QuadMX
Well, I had my first week of college now. Industrial Maintenance course. All I have to say is I'm tired as all hell. 8 AM - 4 PM then working til 7:30 is just a little tiring. I guess it's not bad as far as classes and stuff. Get to do a lot of shop work with hydraulic stuff, motors, wiring, mill lathe work, and a buncha other stuff. There's this one kid in my class...He has this bleach blonde mullet. My wrist is bigger than his bicep. All he does is bitch and whine about the tools not working right. Just because he doesn't know what he's doing. It's just getting really annoying. But he's a dumbass so that's our entertainment for the day.
J.J.
Sounds like a pretty good course, concentrate at doing your best and ignore that loser, he'll most probably drop out soon...

FireHead
One of the biggest lessons you learn in college, is how little amount of sleep you can survive on. THe kid in your class sounds like the type of kid that is going to have the lathe tear his shirt off at some point.

LMFAO As funny as that is, I've heard stories about people getting caught up in a lathe...and one guy was telling my dad how is brother got his head pulled clean off by one. There was a guy here earlier this summer on the news that got his left arm ripped off. Someone didn't lock out the power box while he was working on it. Stupid mistakes can cost a whole lot. Yep, the scope for f**k-ups in a machine shop is huge Odds are this guy is either gonna get caught in the chuck or take too large a cut and tear the work piece out of the chuck or run the tool post into the chuck or on the mill, snap off a $500 end mill using the "fast traversing" be sure to stand well clear, but close enough to view it all when it happens... Stuff
I just finished college ...but I feel your pain. As for your mullet-equipped buddy, I was in a similar situation with a goofball on a project....he was a tooth-pic with big poofy hair that screamed jackass and a know-it-all to boot. He bragged about his machining skills and we needed to turn down a part on the lathe. We set up the part in a four-jaw chuck and I stood back to watch his greatness. I cringed and clentched my hands as he began cutting. I had to correct him and show him how to cut the part which became a futile effort as soon as he ran the cutting tool right into the chuck! Broke the tool and our part went into orbit. I wanted to torch his scraggly hair boot his piddly ass across the shop. Ahhhh, I already miss those days
joehead24
yeah i start classes here at ferris tomorrow. i cant wait to see these kids brag about painting cars to look like glass and then seeing them come out like sand paper. i like to sit back and laugh when they critique my work and they couldn't do there's half as good mine. i guess it just comes after three years of experience. FireHead
I get to see alot of wierd stuff all day long. THe funniest thing that happened recently is that one of our over ambitous students tried to use a parallel bar for a parting tool. Of coarse this is also the kid that couldn't figure out how a diaphragm type carburetor worked, so he some how came to the conclusion that pressurizing the fuel tank was the method my with you throttled it. Needles to say the tank burst and gas went everywhere. He is what is known as a "winner."
