sjgYFZ200
Hey guys, brand new to the site. I just bought my banshee used, a 98 with everything. The first ride was awesome. I come home, and start to clean it off. A cop pulls up and gets out of the car. I live in Colonie, New York, a suburb of Albany. He tells me that they got a complaint of ATV noise and it was obviously me. So he says that in Colonie, they passed a law saying that it is illegal to ride or even start an ATV within a thoulsand feet of any house, even if you have their permission. A thousland feet if u think about it is 3 football fields. That limits my use to just about no where. So he takes down all my information on my quad, where i live, and even what color clothes im wearing!! He says that everone gets one warning, which i just got, and next time they tow it. Im also underage, 15, and he said that my mom could go to jail because of that(another town rule). What can we do guys?? is that legal that they can do something like that? Are there any lawyers on our side??? Our land is being taken away every day and we have no place to go. please help
nickxc
yup. They can do that... Unfortunately I live in Star Lake NY in the adirondack park and they just closed all roads in the entire adirondack mountains (adirondack park) to atvs. if any road is open to automobiles its closed to atvs.. The only thing we can do is move out of the state. Its total BS fortunatly for me there is only 1 or 2 state troopers within 300 miles of my town at a time so we all still ride and they pretty much leave us alone. You might see one cop a day around here and thats only on the day shift accept on the weekend then there might also be one passing through on the night shift too but usually they are around larger towns where they have a better chance of nabing a DWI... fuckers!!! Ok maybe not tha much, but hey, we can always try to start a peteition....
rebelbanshee2
yep NY sucks...fortunately I have ton of private land to ride on. No way my stuff is getting registered. Theres some old raildroad tracks down from me that you can ride on if you are registerd and insured and all that BS..the DEC and police will just sit there if they see trucks and wait for people to come and check them....meanwhile Rochester the closest city has insainly terrible crime rate...that cop should be in the city shooting drug dealers, not harassing off roaders. Cotton eyed Joe
Move out west. At least here we have groups like the ASA counter suing the hippies that close our riding spots. Hell, here in Utah, there are only a few places that are actually closed. I don't know about any of the trails, but out in the sand, and the west desert you can ride anywhere you want with the exception of the Hill AFB bombing range. The have unexploded orndinance in the sands n stuff.....might go boom.

crbanshee
hey it could be worse.you guys in N.Y can ride near home you have trails and such that you can ride just by going to the garage starting the bike and take off.(or so it sounds to me) i live in san diego and to ride my bike out here i have to go 60 miles to the nearest place to ride legaly..and even there i get hastled by the U.S border patroll..there is a track right here in el cajon but its $20.00 to ride it and then its only one night a week for quads and if more 2 wheel bikes show up than quads then the quads are out and the 2 wheel bikes get the track. and if i want to ride at the spot 60 miles from here its still kind of a hastle for just a days riding..load the bike in the truck drive over an hour out there and hope the gates are open to the area..it is 3/4 tank of gas in the truck round trip and then banshee gas..its $50.00 just to go ride for a few hours...so i know how you feel about getting hastled about riding..i grew up less than a mile from where i live today and untill i was 15 i could ride all over this town..hell i had a track in the back yard and now if i even start the bike and ride to the end of my street there are 4 cops here by the time i get back to my garage..i say screw these yuppie a**holes that think our riding is bad idea because it disturbs them..we dont ride to disturb people we ride to get away from all the b.s that we deal with every day these jerk off's dont understand it because they refuse to try..what hapened to live and let live..love thy neighbor...its like live and dont bother me and my neighbor is an asshole punk with dirt bikes these days thats my 2 cents i say f**k all you non riding complaining whiner babys..with nothing better to do than bitch about all of us wanting to ride and have fun

Thanks again for all your help guys What a bunch of fuckers. Why do they even allow you to register your atv's then?? Where does that money go? When you register your car, essentially you are paying for the roads, signage, etc...plus its just money in their pockets, but when you get charged to register an ATV in the state of NY, and there are no places to ride, isn't that a little like taxation without representation? Instead of dumping tea in the harbor you should ride wheelies down the street.
sweetshee4312
Thats very tru, where is the money really going.....I live down in pa, and its not tha bad at all, they really dont say shit to you. MotulMonsta
Just run reverse headers on your pickup with your shee in the back and drive up and down the roads all day. Then ask them what's better...ATV noise or blown small block chevy on race fuel.
