Noob Banshee
what was the real reason factorys went from making 2 stroke to 4 strokes?
locogato11283
what do you mean? all the factories that put out 4 strokes still put out 2 strokes. lets see, honda has the cr250 and they make the new 450r. yamaha has a blaster and banshee and also the yfz450. suzuki still puts out rm250 dirtbikes and they have the z400. polaris has their really slow 2 strokes and the predator. kawasaki has the kx250 and the kfx400. there hasnt been an end to one and a beginning of one. lokar
Because in 2006 it will no longer be legal for them to manufacture 2 strokes. Just like back when they banned 3-wheelers.

Stuff
The basic operation of a 2-stroke means a lot of unburnt gas and lubricating oil goes out the tail pipe in the case of dirtbikes, quads, weedeaters, jet skis, and smaller engines with a very few exceptions such the semi-direct injection of the Ski-Doo snowmobiles. But, on the grand scheme of things, these little 2-strokes don't put out nearly the air emissions such as cars, industrial equipment, and power generation. The EPA still has a damn boner over getting rid of 2-stroke quads, dirtbikes and stuff.
MotulMonsta
What's the big deal?? 4 strokes today have closed the power gap..look at the yfz 450. Granted it is a bit more complex then your basic 2 stroke mil..but C'mon They're not that hard to work on. You still can keep the 2 strokes you already own, you just won't be able to buy new ones except for compation only machines. Deal with it. Get over it. This has been a long time coming. I think 11 years ago they passed this bill. Why do you think there has been such a big push in 4 stroke tech? It wasn't just an overnight "Hey by the way..2 strokes will be outlawed by 2006" type of thing. The debate has been going on longer then most of the members on this forum have been alive. bigboybanshee
I have to agree with Motul...I'm so tired of hearing about the discontinuation of two stroke sales, there is nothing wrong with 4 strokes...Every one of you that has a car has a 4 stroke!! (If you wanna use that phrase about the 4 strokes, tampons, and pussies, go ahead and call yourself one, unless you don't drive) Yeah, I love my banshee but I'm not gonna whine and cry like a baby when they stop manufacturing them...that's just really retarded As far as the reason that 4 strokes are far more common is like said before, the emissions put off by two strokes irritate the tree huggers and they need a reason to bitch about something. Besides that, 4 strokes are easier to predict (power wise) which can obviously be more enticing (sp) to the "typical" consumer...You have to take into consideration that the dealers are going to make what appeals to the media first and then the "typical" consumer. They're in this to make money...and if it takes them stopping the production of two stroke four wheelers then they'll do it...bottom line Just my .

onebanshee
Bigboybanshee, I dont think that was the point of the saying, i believe is refering to the type of riding that should accompany owning a 2stroke/banshee. If you even think that a 4stroke is comparable to hitting the powerband on a shee then you need to take the banshee stickers off your big wheel and try riding like you got set. as for me..... yeah, it sucks that they are no longer going to make the banshee, but i am satisfied with mine, so as far as i am concerned it just means there will be less competition. NugShee
Last thing I want to hear is that Yamaha is going to discontinue the Banshee and not introduce another 2 stroke. Personally, I hate 4 strokes. I dont like the sound or the power, its boring. Im not saying it isnt for someone else its just not my thing. Maybe when I get older and get a little more brittle or less daring I will buy a 4 stroke. But for all of us that have Banshee's you can only imagine what this Ban is going to do for us. Banshees are going to go up in Value the older they get. Yahoooooo

Yeah, I kinda went a little too deep with it...didn't intend to "offend" anyone er anything The whole ban will suck but life will go on...it'll just be another reason for me to take better care of the one I have! sandoz43
20 years the shee's will have been around.. that's something said all by it's self! Love 2 stokes, and with so many aftermarket parts out there, repairs and mods will be around for awhile. Can't bring myself to buying a 4 stroke sport quad yet.. I do have a Polaris 700, but that's my mudder and winter quad. I get a rush just smelling Benoil and C12 mix.
