pre-mix and horsepower

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is a significant horsepower difference between running a 32:1 oil ratio and 100:1 ratio. A buddy of mine swears by it and runs 100:1 in his mostly stock shee with only t-5's and filters. It seems as if his bike definatley has more power than most with the same mods or more. Is there a significant difference?

What loco said. I use 32:1 as well, and use motuls in my 94 and yamalube in the 99. Remember, some shees are just faster than other ones, from the factory. It's just the way it is. I have a friend we ride with, he has a 2000 or 2001 I think, bought the one you see at the dealer already done up. Has pro circuits, milled head and V-Force, always ran real fast. He does absolutely 0 maitenance it, never changes crank oil, doesnt grease it up, mixes the oil and fuel IN THE TANK, BY EYE!! never a problem, not one. banghead. The thing is it still runs, and runs great. I know if I poured some oil in the tank, then fuel just once my shee would friggin explode, with me on it! :shootself: AND FURTHER MORE, IT .................., ok, ok, whew, better now.

holy shit 100:1 seems like a really lean mix. i guess if his jetting is spot and he uses good oil he shouldnt have too much to worry about. personally i run 32 or 40:1. works great for me. i use klotz also.

:whoa: Dido!

Talk to your buddy in a year and ask him how is rod and crank bearings are. The only lubrication that that motor gets is what is mixed in with the oil. That's it. If you don't mind dropping in a new crank on a yearly basis, run a 100:1 mix. Me, I used to run a 40:1 mix but I went back to 32:1 after I replaced my crank for worn bearings.

Dude i hear ya! I was mixing at 40:1 with shit non-synthetic oil (yeah I know you don't even have to say it) and a rod bearing siezed. I just rebuilt the whole top end and i put a new crank in and that motor will never see anything BUT 24:1 amsoil.

100:1?? WTF! sounds like you might as well run straight gas in it.

Yeah, but how often do you drive it and for how long? I drive my shee 2 or 3 times a week for 30-60 mins at a time, usually putting 1 or 2 tanks of gas through it on a trip. With that much driving, I don't think it's wise to mix at 100:1. Maybe if youre just drag racing for 30 seconds...

I'm pretty sure Deuce drives/rides more than that. There is another that mixes 80:1 with Amsoil 100:1 mix and I've heard of more than a few running that stuff at 100:1 w/ no probs. It all depends on the oil. I wouldn't run 2-R at 100:1 but I'd run Amsoil's stuff at 100:1.
