banshee370
What u are saying is true...flex agent will not help it adhere....my bad but..it will help it later after its painted. If you roll your fender for some reason, its not as likely to crack and flake as bad....Don't get me wrong, it won't stop it but it will help... I've used it lots in other plastic painting application. And also for the price of it, why not mix it in with the paint! sheebansavage: The only thing the flex will do is maybe aid in chip resistance, but that will be for a very short period since 99% of the "flex agents" on the market dissipate soon after the finish is cured. Also... Flex agents can not be used in "spray can" products which is what they are talking about above. If you do happen to roll your bike,,,,,, flex or not these "spray can" products will NOT hold up. Forumulaspeed: Any Maier plastic is a pain.... I havent had a chance to try the new stuff yet but I'd be willing to bet its the same as the old.
Cotton eyed Joe
A good paint from a paint gun is the only paint that will ever go on my plastics again. One little tip my brother in law told me...if the plastic has stickers on it (as in the case of STOCK banshee plastics) they are easier to paint. The mold release agents have been cleaned out of the plastic for the most part so the decals will stick well, hence the paint will stick better. My tank plastic was painted with little prep time. It was the water pump cover, and the stator cover that took forever to clean and sand.
joehead24
hey guys i have a tip for you. NEVER use laquor thinner or acetone on your fenders. always use a good quality wax & grease remover. thinner and acetone will cause the plastic to get soft and create more adhesion problems. also if possible use a muti prep like ppg's DX 103 it is made to work with plastic and remove static electricity. and before painting your color and clear use an adhesion promoter for cheap insurance. 2Smoker
I painted my plastic with black krylon fusion. I would NEVER do it again, for this reason. I carry gas jugs with me sometimes on my grab bar, just a little one, and a bit of gas leaked out one night and ran down my rear fender and took all the paint off it. Also, when I fill up with gas, and I spill just a drop or two it instantly lifts the paint off the plastic. I used a grase remover to prep my plastic. It looked good when I first did it but now it looks like shit. I am going to remove all the paint. Prep it again maybe with some synthetic steel wool and prime and paint it. Or just buy new plastic. Spray paint is crap. From now on I'm using a spray gun. Hope you have better luck with it than me.
87sheerips
the paint is good if u prep right, and also apply LIGHT coats at a time. I saw some blue fenders that looked bad ass with some flames blended in. take your time
banshee370
2Smoker: I've said it one and I'll say it again... YOU can NOT buy ANY paint worth a sh*t in a spray can. There is a reason why a good job is so much more $. I have spilt race gas, AV gas, and dot-3/4 brake fluid on my paint jobs and not once have they left a mark. 87sheerips: No the paint is NOT good and no matter how you prep the plastic... That paint will NOT hold up to any harsh chemicals.
