crank issues.

not sure how it happened, but i broke the nipple off of one of my crank bearings. before you tell me to get a stroker crank is there any way i can fix this. its a wiseco LR, so i can have it rebuilt but i hear that they are never the same after being rebuilt. also, how do you get the primary drive sprocket off. its the little one that rests on the crankshaft.

the nipple on the left is norm but the one on the right is sheared off. i found it in the slot cut in to the case, where it is supposed to be. so how do you think this happened?

To bad it's one of the inner bearings. The outer bearing are a piece of cake to replace. My stroker crank only had orings to hold the races in place. And the bearing that did have a nub wasn't like the stock crank. It was just a little bump. Here's a pic. Now that I look at the pic, I don't even see any nibs. Maybe that was my hotrod stock stroke crank I'm thinking of. I don't think it needs much to hold that race, You just don't want it spinning free in there.

well it didnt sheer clean, it broke a little under the surface of the race so what about the TINIEST drop of jb weld to hold the nub into place. with the cases squeezing on it and all i dont think it will need to whole lot more than that to hold it into position. whatcha think?

I don't trust jb weld. I'm still curious how the hell it broke.

If I remeber right, that pin look as though it is tapped it. It's hollow with a split in it. If so, the best thing probably to do is have a machine shop get that pin out and just tap a new one in.

How do you think that pin broke.. that's drivin me nuts... lmao

Okay, here's a theory. The only thing I can think of is your crank started to seperate and that put enough side force on the pin in the slot to make it shear.... or the hole in the bearing was machine a little off.

Or, you did it when taking it apart but those things seem tough.

what, drivin you nuts? im the one whos gotta pay for the shit. its killin me. :shootself:

no, its a hotrod crank they're welded. plus when i took it apart it popped right out.

new theory, what if itry to pop out the pin on one of the outer bearings? if it will comeout w/o damage i can mic the length and drill the other one out, replace it with that one and get a new outer bearing

hows that sound?

Do not reuse this crank without rebuilding it. Your bearing seized up and spun in the race with enough force to shear the pin off. You risk having that bearing lock up and ruin the cases. Spend the money to have the crank rebuilt. Take a better picture of the cases and the bearing.
