2Smoker
Hi, My right bearing where the connecting rod attaches to the crank on the bottom end siezed up on me yesterday. I pulled both jugs off and I checked everything out, and I am going to have to a big motor job. My cylinders are wore pretty bad, one has a groove all the way from the top to the bottom. Anyways, I am going to have to do these things: 1)Fix my crank 2) get new connecting rods, bore it over .20 and put new pistons, wrist pins and wrist pin bearings in it (stock bore now) 3) fix the head - one dome is beat all to hell and I think I might just go woth a new head I need to know what is the best thing to do here. I dont want to spend tons of money, but I want it done right. I drive on the trails all the time, and I don't want to make my bike a 1/8 mile drag bike. What should I do? nater006
Scrap the stock head. Get a Noss head or Cool head. Then you can dump in slightly smaller domes with it and get more power out of your pump gas (or race gas). When you get the crank out, get it welded so it doesn't come apart in the future. Probably the best preventative fix you can do on the shee, period...
2Smoker
I will probably go with a noss head and 20cc domes. The pistons I can do myself, too but what I'm not sure about is the crank. The connecting rod is cooked, so I'll need a new rod, and I might as well replace both of them. Is my stock crank any good at all or should I just order a new one? On the banshee zone the guy reccomended a tony doukas racing crank which is trued and welded. It's 400 bucks, is there any other company you guys reccomend for a crank? Is there any way I can just replace the bearings where the connecting rods join up to the crank? I am new to all of this crank stuff! Please help

2Smoker
Ok, heres a question, what would I have to do to put a 4mm stroker kit in? I mean im replacing most of the engine now anyways, I might as well do it up a little.
nater006
Have heard good things about Tony Doukas cranks. Anyway, working on the crank isn't something you can do yourself as the stocker isn't really rebuildable. Your best bet, by far, price-wise, is to get a new/rebuilt from TD cranks or similar. I dunno what to tell ya about the +4. If you're looking to just drop one in, you'll need a 2mm spacer (base plate) and an extra base gasket. Not sure how well it works with stock porting though. 2Smoker
I live in Canada, and that crank from TDR is going to cost me a fortune because I'll have to pay duty and tax when it crosses the border, plus the exchange rate...I'm going to look around here first but I'm not getting my hopes up. Cheapest is to have the stock head recut and milled, drop in a new crank, sell the bad one, bore, hone and piston kit. Next option same as above with noss head. Then you can go higher on compression if you want some more bottom end and decide to use race gas. Fastest option, new stroker crank, porting, carbs, airbox mod or pod filters, clutch very soon, noss head, sell the bad crank, bore, hone and piston kit. 1998_Banshee_Racer
On ebay their is a +4mm stroker crank, new pistons(any size),a stroker plate, all the gaskets and oil seals to rebuild the motor, all that is like 780.00 or somethin. If you do that i would get a noss head or something aftermarket.I just rebuilt my motor and I had to pay more for a vitos crank, wiseco pistons, and all the other stock stuff than I would have to build a stroker.---Same thing happened to me when mine was stolen it ruint my crank. 2Smoker
I found a 89 banshee for sale for 300 bucks. The motor works good in it, I think I am going to buy it for parts anyways, tear the crank out of it and check it out if it's good I am going to slap it into my 99 shee and do the top end. I took it to a guy today he knows his shit he's going to port it and mill the head and fix the domes, and I am going to get a piston kit. Thanks for the help
