German Shepherd
I am going to get a side winder 13 tooth front with stock rear size and side winder chaine. I all ready have the low tension carbon tech reeds, K&N filter and moded air box. I am looking to get pipes next. I will either get toomey T5 or T6's. I ride alot of trails and also go up MASSIVE MASSIVE hill climbs. I am looking to get the T6s with a dyna ignition system. And then maybe get alba to do a basic port job and put largher carbs on. Should I get the chrome pipes or unpainted ones with me getting the unpainted ones jet hot coated? Should I buy the kit? Can I jet them easily? How hard is chrome to maintain? I want to smoke my buddies crf 450 and maybe his cr 250. But I want reliability. Thanks for the advice
racer
if youre going to increase airflow (i.e. portwork, bigger carbs) id say stick with chrome t-5's. theyre cheaper, and work better with more modded motors. chrome is pretty easy to clean id say. the jetting forum here will get you setup with a good start point on em. but im not sure about the kit because its ideal for an otherwise stock motor but ive got other variables like intake work and clean-up porting then it will be off. maybe someone else with more experience wil chime in. 2000shee
If you are mostly trail riding i'd think twice of getting t5's.
XTShee
If you are mostly trail riding i'd think twice of getting t5's. I mostly ride trails, some tight, some not so tight and T5's do me fine, they seem to pull pretty well when I am climbing hills too. Good all round pipe I think. I am geared 17/40 and can pretty much just sit and second and third all day round most of the trails around here
sredish
A 13 toother is way to small for my blood in the trails. I say a 15 is minimum. I know a lot say that the 13 will "give you more torque", which is kinda BS. It won't, it will make your gears closer and somewhat lower, but you'll find in the trails, you'll be shifting like mad. I'm running a 15/41 (22" rear) right now and I can blast tight trails in 2nd and 3rd easy and keep on everyone's ass, if I'm not in front, while they're shifting back and forth, and then hit wide open and be gone in an instant. You just have to try the sprockets and see how you like them. I guarantee if you ride a 13 tooth and then a 15 tooth, you'll keep the 15 tooth, plus the 15 tooth won't spin your tires as much. .
I've rode fatties, gnarly's, T5's, Pro-Circuits and LRD's and after every time I ride a different pipe I'm more and more impressed by my LRD's. Pro Circuits are the closest to the LRD's but just dont have the same feel. I've had to somewhat clutch every other pipe in the trails, hillclimbs etc to keep it in the powerband and just felt like I'd have to work the pipe with all the other pipes. The LRD's I never have to clutch them, and after riding quite a few different pipes lately realize that I NEVER have to clutch with them. The low end power is amazing on them, they rev as high as t5's, and have a nice smooth controllable powerband hit. They've been everything I could ever ask for in a trail, hillclimbing, dragging, all around do everything pipe. Two words for you. LRD's and a 15 tooth front sprocket.
