EZ2FLEE Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Seems to be a popular item, i run stock carbs and have one..... its bad ass!! cleans up the engine area a bit..... Quote
sprinklerman Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Cant stand them. They come with cheap rubber boots that crack all too soon ( buy genuine Mikuni ones for 40.00 to fix) and require that you goop them with sealant so they don't leak. Other than that, they are pretty good. Buy UPP or buy Chariot . Chariot comes with high quality boots and UPP are one similar to factory style , which have less areas that can possibly leak. Quote
joee20002 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 nothing but air leaks... I had 2 of them...... Quote
jscharphorn Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 So even the new models still have poor boots on them ? Quote
joee20002 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 upps are the best money can buy! Quote
jbooker82 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 I got rid of UPPs because I didn't like the plug hanging up on the clutch arm. I would buy a boss intake again. The rubber boots don't crack they get cut by over tightening the hose clamp. It is worse when you spill fuel on them because it softens them up, making it even easier to do. Quote

Ive seen them crack when they were tightened properly. the same amount any other intake can handle,,why cant Boss handle it? you can compare them brand new side-by-side with genuine Mikuni and tell the compound is not the same. And what use is an intake that isnt resistant to gasoline, one that softens when exposed to gas?? And they are NOTORIOUS for leaking, even you have stated that they have to be sealed so as not to leak. why go through that when there are perfectly good options that dont have those problems? Also, Ive NEVER had UPP intake rub the clutch arm,if anything they angle up just a touch too much..for CPI inframe anyway. They fit perfect for Shearer inframes. Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 It's widely known Boss intakes leak. That's not a secret or opinion. It's fact. UPP is the superior intake. Quote
sprinklerman Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 From what ive heard, the earlier models had Mikuni boots on them. Or maybe it was just a hit-and-miss thing at the time. But now it seems that ALL of them come with the no-name boots. Tyler! It went from awesome to junk?!?! Quote
sprinklerman Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Here > http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=142960 Some people were getting genuine Mikuni boots, others weren't . I didnt mind my Boss intake, until i discovered the boot issue and learned you had to seal them. Then i started using UPP intakes and never looked back. Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Tyler! It went from awesome to junk?!?! Trial and error homie. I'm on my phone and can't see the date of that post. I'm guessing 2003-2004? Quote
jscharphorn Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Great, looks like I wasted $80 Quote
sprinklerman Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Great, looks like I wasted $80 I wouldnt say you wasted it. Just keep an eye on hte boots, when they crack ,replace them with a quality boot. In the meantime , seal all the joints with Motoseal or grey sealant before installing. Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Like the old ass man above me said, just keep an eye on it. Mine never leaked, but there were tons of people that had problems, sometimes too late.. Just make sure it's sealed up properly. Quote
