First experience at Silver Lake!

Recommended Posts

My 2 friends and I went for 3 days and just got back last night (Friday). So we get there everything is cool we couldn't register at the campsite yet so we went straight to the dunes to ride. We're ridin around and I decide to ride across some shallow water. Well, ended up sinking straight down and killing it right away. Let it dry out for 30 minutes and it fires...spitting water out of the pipes like mad. So we ride some more and somethin else went wrong. I don't remember what it was anymore. Then we get to our campsite, register, and we are next to the hottest chicks in the world. They had fiances along though :shootself: But they were all cool and invited us over for their campfire and we road go-karts and stuff with them. Even offered beer and food etc. So the second day we are out riding...I overheat and need to be towed back to the parking lot where I find I have NO coolant left in my radiator. So I fill it up...get it running right again after changing plugs and go out...Overheats AGAIN! Get towed back to parking lot again and we are done riding. We go back to the campsite and I unload it to work on it and our neighbors were real smart with engine shit and the guy told me I had blown my pistons and my cylinders were probably scored. No compression at all. I pulled it off the back of my truck with it in gear and it just rolled like it was in neutral. So the third day since I had no banshee to ride I decided to take my truck out and test the new tires in the sand. I'm drivin around going through some smaller pools of water and climb a little sandhill. I get to the top and something is clanking on the front left tire...I thought my wheel was loose so I looked behind it and the bearings were just falling out of the cv driveshaft by the tire. The other side still had the bearings in but was making noise also. So I had to 2 wheel drive it back to the parking lot but didn't make it even close before I burried it. A jeep was drivin by and pulled me out but couldn't pull me back to the parking lot. He went and got a friend of his with this massive Dodge and he pulled me back to the lot. So I have a wrecked front end on my truck and wrecked engine on my banshee. Still needed to drive my truck 8 hours back home. Everything looks the way it did when it first happened though. Now I got a shitload of work to get done so I can race yet this season. Sorry for the long story.

that sounds about like my first trip to little sahara oklahoma. I didn't have any chicks next door though. I ended up crashing the first 30 mins there. eight stitches later, it was dark. got a tierod from jims sand toys and rode the whole next day. at dusk, I took part in a few drag races. little did I know that my lower rod bearing was going to hell. it got so hot in there that the rod actually started to bend. Luckily, the motor started running like crap and it just died on me. I nearly melted a piston I later found out. I guess I was luckier than you though. unless you would rather have a blown up banshee than a scar for life under your lip.

Didn't do shit with the shee engine yet...Just took the dudes word for it. He seems like he knows what he's talking about so I'll just go along for now til I get to rip it apart. I think if my cylinders are burned I'll take it to this shop about 20 minutes away called Millenium Technologies. They are a pretty big shop that does all boring and porting etc. If anything is wrong like I'm sure it is...I'll just have it bored .020 over and buy a new .020 piston kit.

Sounds like you had one hell of a trip!!! The dune gremlins had it in for you. They knew you were coming.

Maybe you should get it bored .020 over, and buy a .040 piston kit :P

You sure am smart! A cookie is in the mail.

Seriously though....

Are you hooked on the dunes? The first time I went out I was terrified....and by the time Sunday morning rolled around I didn't want to leave ever....

We went out everyother weekend that year. The next year most of them had sold their bikes for one reason or another.

Alright well...I DID have fun. The little time the shee and my truck were still together. I had a lot of fun actually, but when Friday came around I was ready to get back home. And so started the 8 1/2 hour drive home.

The other thing that was wrong = The clutch nut adjuster behind the clutch case ended up coming loose somehow and rolled off the end of the adjuster and became chewed up in the gears...I ripped the shit apart right there in the lot and got a new one from another guy with a bunch of drag shees. My friend helped me out quite a bit getting it apart and back together.
