I'm a definate, and so is one of my buddies. He has a raptor. but its still a yamaha :headbang: I'm heading up to Silver Lake this weekend, 20-22, I'll get some group prices at Val Du, see if they will give any "discounts". I Doubt it but its worth a try! Hey Minika, bring a pair of Rockets up with ya when you come to Silverfest, I've got a set of sparkies, I wanna try a pair out, if I like em I might have to buy a set off ya, perhaps a bansheehq memeber discount?.. hehe. This is gonna be a fun time!

Have you had a chance to call them yet for the group discounts?

I'll be there. This will be my first trip to SilverLake, I'm not expecting dunes like Dumont, but hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I was reading on the DNR website about the Voucher system, I hope that this system is much simpler in practice, than it seems. Anyway, I came across this FAQ:

"Q: When will the Voucher System go into effect this year?

A: Vouchers will be handed out starting at noon on Friday, May 14, 2004 and will be continuously distributed through the summer on weekends/holidays until Sunday, September 12, 2004."

This implies that we won't need to worry about getting vouchers for this weekend. This is good, because I was getting a headache trying to understand the DNR website.

So what is the story on camping? Is someone going to reserve a big camping area and we settle up the fees when we all get there, or should I reserve my own spot?

I believe that it is illegal to ride to the dunes on the roads. you can be pulled on your bike by a legal vehicle, but i wouldnt. It's too far for me to be riding on the pavement with paddles.

depending on where everyone stays, someone may have an open spot on a trailer, or in a truck.

I like taking the truck to the parking lot, or into the dunes, so that i can have food and drinks handy throughout the day.

I will probably be staying in my truck also. I have access to a camper that I'm sure I can get for the weekend, but my tow vehicle can't carry my quad and my truck has no hitch, so the truck or a tent are my only options. I wouldn't mind a hotel room, but I'm not to happy about leaving the quad in the bed over night. If anybody starts to make plans for sleeping arrangements, please post up any ideas.

There seems to be some confusion:

the ONLY way to get to the dunes is through the DNR controlled gates. After these gates is a huge parking lot, where you can bring your camper, truck, trailer, or whatever. The only way to get into this parking lot is to have a state parks sticker on your vehicle. These cost $24 a year, or $4 a day. This parking lot is accessible directly from public roads, so that means that no off-road vehicles can drive into the parking lot - they must be towed or trailered in.

once in the parking lot, you can drive you quad to a DNR station where they check for spark arrestors (and once in a while sound), then you go into the enterance ramp to the dunes. Thats all there is to it

no one that i know of did any booking, so I think you are on your own unless someone who is camping fr sure steps up
