Frostbite
Bought a shee with a toasted clutch and just got it back together. I filled up the trans with oil(10w30), ran it for a min then added a little more to bring it up to "full". I took her out for about 15 min for the first time and when I got back it was pushing oil out of the filler hole. I checked the oil level and it was a little low but still on the stick so I know its not overfilled. During the rebuild I put a brand new OEM dipstick and O-ring in it so I kow its not that either. Any ideas why its doing this? I ran it with the dipstick out and my thrumb sealing the filler hole and it didnt really seem to build any pressure. Im not real experienced in 2 strokes, but I know in a car, pressure from the crankcase usually means rings or headgasket or something like that. Any ideas appreciated
boonman
in a car, perhaps that could be the case, BUT, in a 2 stroke engine, the transmission is seperate from the crankcase. Meaning, that the crankcase canot build pressure unless something is seriously wrong. I am guessing that you have one or both of the transmission vents plugged up. One is located behind the water pump cover, (which you had to remove to replace the clutch), and the other is located on top of the transmission , at the rear of the case, and underneath the upper rear motor mount..... racer
yeah on my friends fifty(yes it a stupid four stroke) he managed to plug up his tranny ventand the same thing happened, but his oil was leaking was from seal where the kicker goes into the case
MotulMonsta
Supprised it didn't blow any seals out. Takes some serious pressure to get oil to squeeze out the dipstick hole with the dipstick in. In fact I'm willing to bet if pressure is the culprit, you have a bad case seal and your also getting oil into the bottom half of your motor. Unplug your vent tubes and blow in them, should be no restriction. If you can't blow in them, they are clogged..could be bad news. Anyways hope whomever built the motor knew what he/she was doing. Frostbite
Thanks guys you all nailed it I followed the breather hoses to the end up under the gas tank. The first 2 inches of the hose was filled with dried mud. I cleaned it out and ran it for about 15 min and its all good---no leaking whatsoever. Hopefully no other damage from it, guess ill find out in time. I did notice after i cleaned it out that if I blew in it it would eventually build to a pressure that I coulndt blow anymore(like a balloon) the same with sucking the air out. Hopefully thats a good sign that my seals are still holding. Edited July 1, 2004 by Frostbite
MotulMonsta
there are two vent lines, one is in the back of the motor, the other runs out from the waterpump cover. If you blow in one, air should come out the other..but they both connect to the same line so if you didn't disconnect them and test em' individualy then you still might have a clog..but like you said, the tranny held pressure so atleast your seals are still good.
