I need Help bad!

I put in a 4mm crank. So as I am putting the cases back together I try to take my

 

time to make sure I don't mess it up. (But I F*@ked it up anyway) I put the

 

woodruff key (square one) on before I put the primary gear on And then put the

 

gear on. It

 

didnt go on far enough so I took A socket that fit around the the middle of the gear

 

and tapped it and now its stuck on there. :wacko: and the gap between the

 

case and gear is too small for a gear puller. What do I do? does anyone have a

 

picture so I can see how its got to sit on the crank?

 

 

yes I know, no stupid questions just stupid people. Please Help me out.

A woodruff key is shaped like a "half moon". You put the regular key in there. I am assuming you got a Wiseco crank. Them damned people NEVER cut a keyway deep enough. You always have to shave a litle off the key to get things to slide together. ;) I don't have any pics here at work, but I do have them at home. If noone has posted a pic, I will get one up later on today. You will have to get a puller in there somehow. Either that, or pull the cases back apart.

I agree with boonman, the gear can be a real bi*ch to get on a Wisco crank. However, you do have some options. The cheap option would be to put some heat to the primary gear and try to work it off with a couple of screw drivers. The "right" way to do it would be to use a bearing splitter to clamp behind the gear and pull it off with a puller and rod setup. You could take the crank into a local shop and have them pull the gear off if you do not want to buy the right setup. The other thing that you COULD do is use a press and push the gear on the rest of the way. That would be the last thing I would do, but you could. Good Luck.

Too late now, but you should have put the square key in after putting the primary drive gear on the crank.

How far did it go in? Is it almost home yet? If you just tapped it in maybe it's not too tight.

 

If you have a small puller you could try the following: Get a strong hoseclip, slightly larger diameter than the gear OD. Put the hose clip around the gear and try to sandwich 2 same size nuts between the hoseclip and the gear. Space the nuts 180Deg apart. Tighten the hoseclip as tight as possible. Now you have some anchoring points for your puller. Put the puller on, gripping around the nuts and put a bit of tension. Next get a hairdrier or heat gun and heat the outside of the gear slowly to allow it to expand. Once it's nice and hot, try to pull it off with the puller.

 

You could also try something similiar with an exhaust clamp from a car, (U-bolt type clamp)

 

If the whole contraption slips off, you'll have to split the cases...

 

The "purists" will most propably baulk at the "bushmechanic" idea, but what the heck it's worth a try. Let us know what happened.

for the next half hour Im going to try a few of your ideas. I hope I dont have to slti the cases

I will tell you how it works out.

 

Boonman a picture would be so helpful. the pics in the manual suck. and what it tells you is some thing like " until the key bottoms out " what does that mean?

 

does the little outside gear sit flush with the primary gear or just against the key?
