Jetting the passion stroker

Recommended Posts

when im riding it a idle isnt my concern......

That is what is so cool about this motor , You can actualy ride it around that way.

when i first got jims engine in my bike, me and a buddy whos a guru on built yamahas started jetting it.... we left the 50's jim supplied and rode it then we dropped the pilots and it started to cackle so we went the next size up on the mains and reinstalled the 50's and it just fuckin ripped from top to bottom, but wouldnt idle (jim even told me it wont want to idle) and i tried adjusting the 34's idle adjust to no evail........ i run a 1/4 turn twist so when i start her to warm i take up the cable slack at the throttle, then as im riding i relax the slack and just blip the throttle to keep her running, its hard to hit whoops with no play in the gas peddle, but too me the first 7500g's of my power band is where its at, jim understood that and built my motor accordinly, id like a smooth idle, but would never trade it for arm snapping accelaration, that little bit of hesitance on the down low would fuckk my game on the track......

Well I don't have a stroker or a twelve port , but recently installed some 33PWK's , I just threw them on out of the box and it ran :o .

It was real rich idleing but didn't load up , so I switched the 52 pilots to 48's , I still have the 165 mains in , but have not had a chance to go ride it yet .

Loco .. I did find out the jets are the same darn jets as the ones that fit my wifes YFZ 450 , I wished I would have known that before ,now I have 3 each of a lot of sizes.

I had this roblem at first, found out I had to unplug the old cable that goes from the Thumb Throttle to the TORS unit, after that it idled perfectly.

yea all three of my quads now use the same jets, i love it. :D they also all run about the same jetting. i think thats kinda strange. oh well, the less jets i have to buy the better. them bastards are expensive..

BD, jim never told me mine wouldnt idle. i think he said that with 34's it wouldnt idle and with 35's it would. thats why i went with 35's. it idles perfect tho. im still waitin on rocket pipes to do the final fine tuning. i dont wanna get it all runnin good with a set of toomeys when i know its gonna be different with rockets.

I think perry runs a 15 up front and a 40 or 41 on back but it seems like its geared a little tall, but that could be because of his crazy ass drag style porting to. I'd maybe try 14/40. with the portting it should at least pull one tooth taller on the front.

I remeber when ron was first building the hill, I rode my banshee on it with no porting just pipes and +4 key stock gearing comin out in second and hit third right before i hit the hill. It pulled it fine, but it was real dusty and loose that day too.

i have more to worry about than perry does. for one he runs a real long swing arm, so i know all his weight isnt on the rear tires. also his tires arent all that great. they dont have too much tread to them. im gonna be runnin just a +2 with brand new fats trekkers. they bite like a motherfucker. ive always run 13/41 and taken out in 3rd and usually stay in 3rd the whole way. i dont really wanna have to shift it. im gonna be doing some testing with 13, 14 and 15 tooth sprockets this weekend.

Make sure you've got a cameraman like last time. ;) I need to hear those rockets behind that 12 port.

  • 2 weeks later...

Some day i will get this Pasiion 12 port stroker rippen LIttle bit of a repost from the other thread.

I been playing around with my pilots and started with the Stock size of 35 and worked down to 27.5 I am to lean and can't idle cruise about 1/16 throttle position i am going to 32.5 agian. I can't remeber how it ran with the 32.5's  But 30 started to cracklin and 27.7 confrim it was worse so It looks like the Passion stroker with shearers will like a richer mix on my shee.

On a 2nd note I installed a 270 main and bike pull alot better than 280 did. It's was over 90 degree in the desert too. but i feel a 260 would be better for the temp, with my combo of parts my range is looking like a 260 for Hot days and 290 for cold days. I go and pull my plug and Edit this later tonight.

Locogato How is you jetting coming?
