Where do you...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just bought a brand new 2004 Limited Edition Banshee. I was wondering where you guys put your oil when you go on long trips? How do you figure out your dilutions when you stop to gas? Your help is appreciated.

Also, do you recommend soaking the air filter in kerosene to clean it?

I normally pre-mix my fuel and carry the extra fuel along. I also made a small spreadsheet that I printed and laminated and stuck under the seat to give me the correct ratio.

Are you talking about the stock filter? I washed mine in fuel when it was still stock, but have since replaced it with a K&N, for the K&N, I use the K&N cleaner. To answer your question, no I don't recommend it, fuel is dangerous and can penetrate your bloodstream etc, ect, ad nauseum.

You should be thinking about upgrading that filter if it's still stock, it's going to let you down.

Yes, I'm talking about the stock filter... Where do you put your gas-can? I'll wait till the stock filter wears out and then I'll upgrade. What filter do you recommend and how much do they go for? Also, is it best to use SUPER unleaded as opposed to regular?

Thanks for answering my questions guys... My last 4-wheeler was an '88 Warrior. Two very different machines.

Slayer, I just noticed that you're new here, welcome Bro...

I have a 3 litre gas can that fits between the frame rails in front of the engine. My bike is fitted with a skid plate and FMF pipes, with a bit of wrestling it fits in there nicely. I doubt it would work with stock pipes though. You could strap a small can to the grabbar I suppose...

I would recommend the foam filter, with a Proflow adapter for very dusty rides and K&N with Outerwares for normal trail rides. Not too sure about the prices in your location, I'm from South Africa.

If you're running a stock compression engine, regular will be good enough.

its 4oz to a gal for 32:1. rour tank hold about 3 gal so when you fill it put about 12oz in with it. you better not forget about mixing with that new shee or youll be  all the way home.

i dont know about carring your oil i never did it. i have carried tools in my pockets though to tweek the carbs along the way. bad idea, so far i lost 1 pipe wrench 3 screwdrivers, 1 adjustable. definatly sux ass. im thinking about a napsac thing to hold stuff but if i fall i dont need a srewdriver in my lung. but i only ride woods so it your at a track or what not there it no need. best thing is to strap it down domewhere. im thinkin about making a storage container in the front frame to hold water and stuff when trail riding.

i just clean my filter in my parts washer then blow it out with compressed air and re-oil with 2 stroke oil. a K&N is definately on the immediate list of things to do.

i think you can buy little bottles of oil for 1 gallon at a time mixes. when we refule we usually pull the bikes right up to the pumps and just watch the pump for an exact gallon.

ive got a little waist pouch i carry my stuff in (wallet/cell/smoke(s) etc)

you can get em for a couple bucks at an outdoor store or even walmart or something.
