How do you tighten up the chain??

Recommended Posts

It don't matter how loose the chain is, there should be NO play in the axle or swingarm, just the pivot of the suspension.

Where exactly IS the play?

Also, ebay has tons of service manuals, I suggest you visit there. In fact, here's a Clymer with "Buy It Now" for $25. If you don't do ebay, then just go to the dealer and buy a factory Yamaha one, that's what I have, I like the factory books and such. I don't recommend a cd rom because I think they're a bitch to look stuff up in, plus it's nice to have the book in your hands when your ass deep in your quad in the shop. I have a laptop and it would still be a bitch with the cd rom in the shop while your working. I do have a cd rom manual and the book, and I never use the cd.

If you search on tightening the chain you'll probably find a lot of stuff.

Later.

To tighten the chain you just loosen the 2 carrier through bolts

and then loosen the locknuts on your adjusters and then turn the

10mm adjuster bolts in to tighten. Make sure to turn both of them

the exact same amount. You want about 3/4" of play in the chain.

Even 1" is not too much IMO.

u can almost pull it right of the sprocket.

To test rear sprocket wear, try to pull the chain away from the very

rear of the sprocket. No matter how loose your chain is, if your sprocket

is not worn you won't be able to pull the chain off of the teeth very far.

If you can pull the chain more than half way up the teeth of the sprocket,

its time for a new sprocket.
