roosthrower
If people want to smoke cigarettes let them. It's not like it doesn't say right on the carton that cigarettes can cause lung cancer. As far as the 12000 or whatever number of mothers dieing every year, it is not the tobacco company's fault the moms that smoked died. Do the tobacco companies force people to smoke? f*ck no they didn't. The whole truth comercial crap is a bunch of bullshit. sredish
Yeah, but back in the day, they lied about the harmful products and said it wasn't bad for you and did all these things to mislead the public, so now they're being forced, by the courts, to inform the public. Cotton eyed Joe
It is sort of like the fat kids parents suing McDonalds. BUT I dunno. The tobacco companies do put a warning on the box etc...but I think McDonalds should put "Eating this food will make you a fat ass" on the side of everything they sell. LegendSS28
Yes, they put the labels on the packs because it is required by law. What you dont know is that the majority of their marketing is targeting teens, and people under the age of 24. Its also a fact that the 3 companies that advertise the most(Marlboro, Newport, and Kool) all have the highest rate of cigarette sales to teens. You gotta look behind what you see on the package, becasue they are hiding much more than they are showing.
Tungsten
In New York people can't smoke at bars, work or pretty much anywhere. And i love it. I don't need to be smelling other peoples smoke.

Everone knows smoking is bad for you and the whole deal why is it a big deal. If you are a teen and you smoked because than ad told you to you are a retard and deserve to die of lung cancer anyway lol
SANDSTAR
Banning smoking from private busnesses is an erosion of our constitutional rights. That being said, If you chain smoke, you either hate yourself, or you are not a very smart person. THAT being said, a toke never hurt anyone. I don't need to be smelling other peoples smoke. i dont like smelling smoke either, but the thing is its peoples private businesses. If they want to let people smoke in them then fine, its up to them. Many resturants were smoke free before the ban even took place. The smoking ban here is such bullcrap, if i ever meet Pataki im going to kick him in the ball sack. When it first came out there was a bar in Batavia that had "smoke free" nights where if you came they would give you free smokes. They got fined everytime for it, but it was refreshing to see, mkae me want to go there and cough on a few cigarettes.
blazenlo
Resturants, I can see the no smoking law. People are there with there familys trying to eat. But bars! C'mon now. A bar is a drinking and smoking atmosphere (sp). If you don't like it stay home. Yes you guessed it I'm a smoker. And I think other smokers will agree w/ me, when your drinking its the best time for a good old marb.

kenr74
I think those commercials are great. They target the same market the the cigarette makers are going for. As for banning smoking in public places, they should do it. They don't ban it because non-smokers don't like it, they ban it because second hand smoke kills people. I don't really feel like dying just becuase some asshole felt the need to light up next to me.
