what should i get?

Recommended Posts

ok i have never raced XC on a quad but i used to race on dirtbikes. i am looking into starting to race XC at the beginning of the next season, probably the FTR. i have a good idea what quad i want to buy to use, but im not entirely sure what is the best. im looking at the YFZ450 and the TRX450R.

1) how do those two compare all around?

2) what do all of you guys use?

3) whats the most popular quad thats used in XC?

4) and what quad seems to be the best when it is mostly stock (suspention wise) for XC?

I go with the YFZ, but that's just a personal opinion. Take a look at the Pro Class standings here on Yamaha's website, overall 8 out of the top 10 are on YFZ's. So...

1)Pretty close but from what I've read the Yamaha is more race-ready out of the box.

2)I run my Banshee in desert XC races, but it's a little more open than woods.

3)YFZ450 right now, but they had about a year headstart on the TRX450R. Z400's are pretty popular too.

4)I still say the YFZ by a hair.

Plus I think the Honda is ugly as sin, and I still think Honda is a buncha pussies for disconinuing the 250R when Yamaha kept making Banshees, my $0.02.

I would defo go with the Yamaha. I didn't ride one but i did ride the 450R. I was so unimpressed by it. It felt like its got no low end and it was a pain in the ass to start and u need a quick start for XC. Plus the YFX is so much easier to hook up, not that you really need to.
