Planning on taking the shee out on it this winter. Anyway... Who's done this? Is it worth it to stud up a set of old tires? Half the fun for me would be sliding around, doing powerslides at good speeds, etc, but it'd still be nice to be able to get up to speed! Already got the lowering kit (rear block + front shock adapters). Anyway, whats the good word? Got an old set of razrs, going bald, to stud up if necessary. locogato11283 Posted June 28, 2004 Report Share Posted June 28, 2004 ive got some tires i studded for my hillclimb. i run them on the cr500 banshee. i got mad hook up for sure in the dirt. if you stud a set of tires you will not slide on ice. they will grip like a sum bitch. i tried to do some power slides with mine on the 500 and it wouldnt go anywhere but straight. i use 1/2" sheet metal screws (not self tapping) in mine. you will need about 1/2" or more of tread to do it. ive run mine on the concrete and they dont wear. you can buy them in boxes of 100 at westlakes or lowes or other. i think i have like 200 or so screws in each of my turf tamers and i also have a set of fast trekkers with studs in them. i use those for winter snow riding and shit. canadabanshee Posted June 28, 2004 Report Share Posted June 28, 2004 Hey. Last winter I put 250 studs per tire. I got a box of ice racing screws. I think they come in boxes of 500 1000 or 2000. They worked great. I was doing wheelies on the ice. I would use these over self taping screws cause they have a dish in the centre of the head that bites into the ice. Helps out good. I used a cordless drill to put them all in. But if you have no tread on the tires its ok. They come in different lenghts to. Or if they do go throw the tires making it flat. If i'm still having dreams of 120' powerslides and donuts (mmmmmmm... donuts) then maybe gotta keep an un-studded set around too Just hadn't ridden a quad w/ ice studs yet... thanks for the insight!
