mobansheerider
I just installed a LA Sleeve 409 Monoblock big bore kit and went to the local sand drags and it doesn't seem to make the power LA Sleeve says it will. With the stock motor I went 5.80's@51mph and I mean completely stock with FMF SST's. I'm 6'1" 300lbs too! The new setup only went 5.60@57mph. I went to a +6 swingarm at the same time I installed the big bore kit. I am running 34mm PJ's with 162 mains and 50 pilots like the kit instructions states and jetting seems to be dead on by feel and plug chop. I did not port the cylinders, but that is my next step. I have Shearer out of frame pipes. I was running 4 snows and seemed to be hooking up really well. Has anyone installed this kit? If so what carbs did you go with and what jetting? What pipes? etc. I'm becoming a little with it. Would like some suggestions to help go quicker!
SyNtAxx
hello, you will really need to port the jugs for optimal power. I would port for your type of riding...it seems your trying to build a drag bike...so get a drag port.... I am not a engine guru..but adding a few cc's prolly wont gain you alot of ground.... besides...now you need to flow more air/fuel to feed the need beast.... Port it ...you wont be sorry... MULLET~BOY
adding cc's withought stroke will not actully make your bike faster on top end it lowers how fast it revs if you really wana gain some power out of that set up get a stroker crank and have it ported you will be more then happy with the way it runs
blowit
Hey, I really need more info to help you. I build engines and have a shop near Wichita, KS. Things I need: Head type, CCs, comp. static at your elevation, pistons, pipes, any thing else you have. Sounds like you need a new SU. Tires will need to be haulers 10 paddle, bump the 6in swing and run 2in. Trust me, you are not hooking down track. Also you need high comp. with race gas min oct. 105mon. If you have the FMF pipes, go the CPI or toomy. If you can give me more info, I can get you to the front with that motor. Actually strokers decrease rpm potiential by decreasing rod linear speed, and this increase inertial forces at the crank causing more wear on it thus reducing life. However they increase the rods mechanical advantage over the cranks center offering better torque. Long rod works great with a little of both worlds. Drop a line and I will try to help. PassionRE
You need porting if you want REAL power. 50cc increase in displacement on stock port timing will give minimal results. Better yet, stroke it and port it ,and youll have an absolute monster on your hands...Jim Edited June 22, 2004 by PassionRE
mobansheerider
Cylinder is now off and being ported. I spoke to LA Sleeve today and told them how upset I was with their claim of 60+ hp and they directed me to a couple of different engine builders to get some insight on the best porting for my application and some new expectations hp wise. All I can say is we'll wait and see what kind of numbers I get out of it. I am going to run it on gas first to see how it does, then switch over to alcohol, also adding a 1-5 override tranny, this should get me where I want to be time wise!
