dalegoldston
Weather was hot low 90's in camp mid 90's on the sand and windy 30mph almost constant but that kept you cooler on the sand. Dunes were loose on the faces and very sharp you had to approach the top very carful or you could launch very easy either way up or down. Well it was noon and you know what time that is when you are camping. Second to the last dune heading to the north camp about 25' high. my buddies is leading about 10 feet ahead going pretty slow you know going about 10 mph catch a little air from the top land a few feet down and continue the cruise. But with the sand being so loose up top bad idea. I creast the top and see him dug in and going over at that point I knew what was instore me same thing. Nothing bad he strained his neck and I am getting my elbow checked by a DOC today to make sure nothing is screwed up. It was a good out of four of us three crashed but nothing serious and all the bikes survived. Hell mine should of been it rode me down the dune. BansheeJen
Sounds like everyone had a riding adventure this weekend. I'll share my adventure to Lake Murray with everyone. Started out rather great at least for about the first 15-20 minutes or so. I decide to dart down a trail that I dont remember ever going down before. Had a lot of off camber stuff and you could tell where it had a good grade down the whole thing due to the water runoffs. You know I like a crisp throttle as much as the next person on a banshee, but this time I could have gone for a dead spot in throttle instead. I'm heading down the slope and I see where its washed out, you go down and then it veers right. SO much water had washed down the hill that it exposed some tree roots. The roots stuck out in the trail about 2 feet or so. So I hit the roots, bounces me over into a ledge then stuff the front of the bike into the face of the other side of the washout. Well when this happens the bike is sideways already and im heading right for a tree. Happened too fast to do much of anything to prepare for it. Heck I barely got OH SHIT out of mouth then impact. Banshee and the tree decided to make me into a jen sandwich. Arm and shoulder were in front of the tree ribs and hip were behind the tree. Then due to all the washout, some nice 3" roots from the same tree that tried to eat me were kind enough to break my heads fall after it already hit the tree and before I head dived into the ground. Triple head smack from start to finish in the crash. The banshee was kind enough to go ahead and roll over the ledge and pin me to the ground. I swear I think it was trying to kill me! Knocked the wind out of me, got a bad case of tree rash from my elbow to somehow under my armpit, one slightly pulled muscle in my left leg, re twisted my knee from a month ago that was almost back to normal, and a rib cage that feels like it got used for a punching bag in a street fight complimented by some pretty nasty bruises. I'd have to say that its the first time I've hit my head hard enough that its made me dizzy and ready to throw up. Needless to say, it was a kinda wasted trip since I was almost knocked goofy in the first 30 minutes we were there. And it was my dads birthday on top of that, so it kinda messed up his day too. My opinion of crashing, well it just flat out SUCKS! But at least the Banshee was okay other than having to break down two rims and dig everything out of the beads. sredish
Sorry to hear that for the both of you. Glad I can give you something to compare to dale. Jen, I'm sure you'll make a quick recovery before your next atvccs event. Scott
dalegoldston
All I can say is sand is a lot softer than a tree. Good thing for helmets mine has a nice scrape by the right side probably would of been a lot worst if it was at camp. Take care Jenn. BansheeJen
I hope all is well by this weekend, need more ride time before the next race. How'd you like your lightened flywheel Scott? So you looking at a month or so before you can ride again. You got any pain killers to share! Dale got to love the trickiness of the dune tops huh? I've been really lucky at the dunes knock on sand, and usually just tear something up on the bike. So you going to Aledo next month? I was lucky enough to not make contact with any of the plush sand at Murray mostly the nicely hard packed clay that is all over out there. Everyone needs to heal up so we can all go ride sometime soon!
