What about polishing, what will give me what i need (to go up a bore) and give me performance? What is the cheapest way? what is the most expensive? give me some ideas to throw around... taking the jugs in tomarrow to have the work done. Justintoxicated Posted May 20, 2004 Report Share Posted May 20, 2004 (edited) Porting is usualy enlarging and reshaping your intakes and transfers to flow more fuel and air. Big Difference. Boring is just making the cylinder one size larger, but the intakes transfers and exhaust are not changed so you are not really flowing much more than before. Polishing is basicaly removing all the factory blemishes and casting flaws, it helps but not as much as a Port+polish...I guess you could just polish it, but If I was going to do that i would go ahead and get it ported too... Then you can enjoy more gains later from carbs and reeds too. Typicaly I believe most places bore it a size or two over to get rid of any harmfull burs left from the porting so you would want to do this before you bore it out. Unfortunatly I talked myself into port, polish, bore, and having them assemble it...mainly just because I want it to run RIGHT.. When it comes to engines, I love to work on them, but when they arent working and i'm spending money to get it fixed... Hockey390 Posted May 20, 2004 Author Report Share Posted May 20, 2004 A place called bridgeview powersports. A guy that lives with my aunt in cali has them do his work, he said they do an A+ job... They just did port work for a guy on his banshee last week and they said it was F*ing ripping! Is there such a thing as a bad port & Polish job? Master of Faster Posted May 20, 2004 Report Share Posted May 20, 2004 Hockey, lemme know how he does on the port/polish on yours. I live in Auburn, pretty close to Midland. If he does a good job it might be worth having someone local do mine. It's my understanding that he was the head mechanic for Bridgeport Polaris until they got closed down for warranty fraud, and was pretty good but I didn't know he did work like that, lemme know. Justintoxicated Posted May 21, 2004 Report Share Posted May 21, 2004 rease you can polish the exhaust port and get rid of the factory casting flaws (not polished but evened down some) I think thats what they consider polishing...The thing with porting is that it can usualy only be done once, so you want to make sure you get a good job, like from jim at passion.
